What spec computer would run SK smoothly?

So, in previous years I have heard that even the top end of computers struggled to run SK too smoothly with all the bells and whistles on, because it is a java game and is badly optimised.

So if one were to build a computer, and didn't want to be let down by their performance in SK, what kind of processor would you need?

-AMD have the lower performance, more cores, but seeing how the game runs on few threads, would the AMD be disappointing when running this game?
-Intel being more expensive, with higher performance and less cores (for the price), I'd assume would be good for SK.

Seeing the minimum requirements I'm a little confused as to how the game would even be playable at those specifications.
And graphics wise, I'm guessing the game doesn't need a very powerful graphics card either, with minimum specs asking for 64mb VRAM.

My question, really, is what are the specs on your machine, and how well does it run SK?

It would be disappointing if someone were to build a new PC, but wouldn't be able to run SK decently considering what it is.

Mine isn't that powerful but still...

With my Intel Core i5 and a Nvidia GTX 650 with 8gb ram I manage to run the game flawlessly, not a single bit of lag (well except the usual stutter when a player spawns mid-run), handles things like loooots of players in haven (min fps was 20 during Nox's giveaway which had A LOT of players and they even used fireworks) and with an SSD your loading speed will be great
I don't use anti-aliasing though, but tried 16x once and it didn't affect much, still over 60 most of the time with that on

I find that with tweaks most machines can run the game flawlessly. Just from a spec standpoint...

I run the game laglessly (30-45 fps) on low settings on these specs:
AMD Athlon II (2x 2.8GHz)
4G memory (game runs on 1G)
Nvidia GeForce 6150E (Yup, integrated.)

A vanilla install of the game would have many problems though. The problem with tweaking is that it seems to be slightly different for every machine.

The game use slow java and one main thread(read one cpu core), so you need really good perfomance per core, something like unlocked intel cpu i5-i7 with 4.5 GHz.

Mid range.

I'm able to run the game at typically high settings on my home desktop (High + Vsync + Render effects + 4xAA @ 1366x768)

AMD Althlon x2 245 @2.90GHz (64-Bit)
4GB DDR3 RAM
ASUS Radeon HD 6670 w/ 2GB

Inexpensive hardware that well maintains even modern games surprisingly well. Spiral knights runs at 60 FPS when maxed out and frame drops only typical in haven when there's many players, all common for a neat card.
Another interesting thing about these specs is that skyrim runs on ultra with 60fps+ when AA is turned off and FXAA is enabled.

@Bzzts

it's all depend on what problem you get..

if you having issue with lag and live in us or eu.. then you need to get a better computer, here i show list (from most important to least) graphic card or gpu > processor > ram

if you having issue with delayed attack and you live outside of us or eu.. then you need a better connection to play this game. but not only delayed attack if you outside of western side.. lag and screen freeze is possible with bad connection.

Thanks all for responses, nice to see that virtually anything I or anyone else buying a PC would buy CPU wise would be good enough!

As it turns out I believe every machine I've run SK on has either had underpowered CPU or GPU, as in dual Xeon but pretty bad graphics card, or a mid range 5770 with a phenom not even working correctly.

At the other end ...

Dell Latitude E6400 laptop (6 years old? 8 years?)
Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.80GHz, 3GB ram
Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2 (yes, their really awful integrated chipset)
Ubuntu Linux 14.04

True, I keep the graphics set all the way down to low, with optional features off. And it still jerks, skips, etc, when a lot is on screen. But surprisingly the network lag is usually a bigger problem than the cpu/graphics. The game is unplayable some evenings when my neighbors turn on Netflix, but is quite playable in the early morning.

The solution for you is to get your neighbors to have Blockbuster instead.

Hi !

My computer spec :-
Intel Core 2 duo 1.8 Ghz
2 GB ram
No graphic cards
Gigabyte Mother Board
Can play Spiral Knights at Low Settings .. Lag doesn't disturb me much .. But its okay i can enjoy .. ;D

Specs that would run SK smoothly would be a quad-core processor card and 4GB of ram.

I'm running SK on 3 bar and no lag with a laptop with an i3 intel core processor (2.3Ghz) and 4GB or ram. to me it's primarly a connection issue.

That depends. Spiral Knights

That depends.

Spiral Knights is a single threaded application, so the less cores your CPU has the better the performance.

But it's more graphically intensive despite being programmed in Java.

Quite honestly, with an i3-2330M at 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM @ 893MHz and HD3000 graphics, I get by perfectly fine at 1080p, low settings 1xAA.

With x12AA, High settings, 1080p an i3 will still be fine, as will the RAM. You'll likely just need something like an R7 260 or a GT740.

I have bad FPS

Still lagging me with:
i3 2.93 GHz (64 bits)
8GB RAM 1600 MHz (2x4gb)
R7 240 2GB GDDR3
My connection is good but I'm from Argentina so I play with 2 bars and rarely with 1
I think it's because of my proccesor, I get 15-20 fps in haven at HIGH, LOW I get like 25-30, and no lag difference between 1x Antialiasing to 8x (16x only aviable with NVIDIA)
I've uprgraded to the 64 bits version of java, my loading times really got better but my framerates are the same.

If you want SK running the best, grab an Intel 6700k and overclock it to 4.7 ghz with a voltage around 1.4 tops. You can use integrated graphics, it's true it just eats up one CPU core and isn't demanding on graphics at all (Can run on a year 2003 video card).

I put the code on the

I put the code on the Extra.txt to use multiple cores in a case of a multi-core processor, Idk if it's working.
The thing is that I think an i3 is really enough for this game, my game uses around 1900-2600 MB RAM so it really have what it needs.
And my video card it's enough, I'm running the game at 1440x900 and lowering the resolution won't give me a better framerate, anyway I'm thinking on buying a new PC and I would put an FX 8350 but people say that an i7 is better, so Idk what to choose!
Btw I'm Argentinian so sorry for my bad English. :3

FX 8350 will run SK like garbage, because that CPU is focused on multi-threading rather than single thread performance. Intel 6th generation skylake processor model 6700k is the best you can physically get right now.

If you want an AMD processor that badly, wait until October this year for the Zen processor architecture to be released by AMD. The current Vishera FX-series CPUs are obsolete out the door already.

Thanks for the replies

Lol I didn't know about the new proccesor coming from AMD, but I think if it's a new proccesor I'll go then for the Intel line.
Thanks for your replies, have a nice day or night >_> (4:11 AM here)

Yeah, reports are that it's 40% faster at the same clock speed than its predecessor. The Zen microarchitecture is slated to be on-par with Intel offerings from the year 2014, but much cheaper and with 8 cores instead of 4. It'll give Intel a run for its money by undercutting them heavily.
