Alright, I'm 3* about to start moving to 4*. I'm a gun/sword specialist hybrid but using guns as a primary and swords as back-up. I need to know if I should get defensive gear to well be able to survive or if I should get the gunslinger line in order to deliver more DPS. Can't deliver dps if I'm dead so a little help here?
A little Help perhaps
Alright, so after getting my 4* and 5* stuff, time to get Quicksilver and Chaos Sets. Guess I'm forgoing shadow and elemental defense till I reach 5*. Lucky me.
You mentioned quicksilver, you can alch that up to mercurial mail, I have been using merc mail to help with my gunning since I got it.
The movement speed (which can be compounded with the right pet perk) can get you out of terribly bad situations, Chaos, shadowsun, and nameless all rely on dealing damage. Mercurail mail can help keep you from getting damaged by being able to outrun most monsters.
Antiguas benefit more from damage than ASI due to the fatigue the ASI will put on you trigger finger (seriously OUCH).
Alchemers need you to turn autotarget off in order to get the most damage from charges.
Valiance fits any set and playstyle (my goto gun for danger rooms)
Polaris does do better with damage (as the first shot knocks the enemy away from the third and sometimes second shot) and can put major hurt on cornered enemies.
Catalyzers are fun guns that fit great with the chaos set due to the damage and ctr (which is crazy for catalyzers)
Midnight-Dj did not mention the "Fallen set" which provides a nice universal ASI and can help out your sword game as well.
It has a shadow/fire resist and a fiend penalty (you can lessen the penalty with a pet perk), it is a good set for FSC. (there are better ones out there due to the Trojans that show up in FSC)
The key idea here is: In Tier 3, even the strongest armors let through tons of damage. There is no big difference in damage protection. On the other hand, there is a big difference in status protections, especially against shock and fire. So your main choices are:
* Chaos (good damage defense, terrible status defense, awesome offense on swords, guns, and bombs)
* Shadowsun (good damage defense, decent status defense, good offense on guns)
* Nameless (good damage defense, decent status defense, good offense on guns)
If you're worried, you might go for Shadowsun and Grey Owlite. If you're confident, you might go for Chaos and Swiftstrike Buckler. Feel free to mix sets, if you're somewhere in between.
spiral knight 101: offensive vs. defensive
SK is one of those games that reward players to be aggressive with the mobs, so offensive will for the most part out class defensive as well as scenario armors (armor that gives you bonus for a certain monster family). Since you are using guns as primary, depending on what guns you are using you can choose:
-Chaos set
Give you massive damage increase on all weapon types, at the cost of vulnerbility to statues, not recommended if you have bad pin or first time player.
-Shadow sun set
This set gives you a good damage bonus on your guns while providing resistance aginst poison and shadow, definately a good choice if you are using weapons such as blitz needle, blaster or the alchemer.
-Nameless set
This set give you attack speed increase on all your guns while providing resistance against freeze and elemenal, definately a good choice if you are using weapons such as polaris or the antigua variants.
