I already posted this on technical support, but there have been 10-20 posts about it a day on the kong forum, so I feel it deserves some extra representation so I'll post it here aswell.

Hey, I used to play Spiral knights a lot in the past and eventually got pretty far (4 star gear, 5 star weapons) and decided to start back up when I heard it's all on steam now. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer my kong account to my steam.

I know there's a way to do so with other account types (like those hosted on Spiralknights.com) , but none of them seem to work with kong accounts, as they use a system where the knights name is actually linked the user kong account, making it something like *Kong#####" so I can't actaully sign in on the sign in page because it doesn't tell you your password.

I've heard some game devs say there were working on a way to do it on the steam forums, but there's been no word since. They did say it was hard, so I came up with the idea that they could get some kind of automated system to email you your kong id (Kong#####) and password (whatever string of digits that may be) to the user's synced email address.

If there are any game devs on this forum I'd be really appreciative if you implemented this (or found another way to transfer) so i'd be able to take advantage of the features steam has, like easy dlc downloads and voicechat, with my actual account.

I've seen this posted so many times, that it genuinely feels like the dev team is actually ignoring it.

--Thanks

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

I think this belongs in suggestions. to move a thread, edit your first post, dropdown menu, click suggestions, and save. please don't leave a shadow copy.
and yeah, I think it's something about randomly generated passwords on entry, so they would need to retrieve your password from the host site (in your case kong) and then merge your account with steam. I think this process has lots of problems and right now the devs are concentrating on guns and not on the game "ports".

I guess it would be faster to write an system that makes Kong/Aeria account an Spiralknights.com one, so it would make it able to bind it to Steam.

that way the payment system would be linked directly to the main site and not to the host. that's the 105% of the reason why hosts ask for the game on their websites.

What you are asking for is

What you are asking for is the ability to transfer credentials from any vendor to any another at will - this includes transferring FROM Steam TO Kong or Armor if you felt the need to do so for some bizarre reason. It wouldn't surprise me if these third party vendors have agreements in place to preemptively prevent it.

Imagine a world where, if you decided you hate Steam, you could just push a button and convert your game library to Gog.com or whatever.

Kongregate emailed me after I emailed them about this and said the contract strictly forbids this from occurring.

quick fix

There is a quick fix that other kong users have used where you can use your account in any version of the game so long as you don't fully transfer it to steam. A buddy of mine who is a mod for kongregate told me how to do this.

you need to make a .txt file called Extra.txt

You will need to find your id number using inspect source on the kongregate shell for the game. You can also find the AuthToken doing this which you will also need. Type as follows into the text file:

-Dkongregate=true
-DkongregateName=xxxxxxxx
-DkongregateID=xxxxxxx
-DkongregateAuthToken=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You put your username in lowercases in the name spot. The ID is usually around 7 numbers. The authentication number is usually some very long sequence of numbers with some letters in between. This should get you what you need. However if you forgot your username all together you are out of luck.

If you forgot your username how are you even playing SK?
