===::Chapter One; The beginning and the end.::===
Walking up the seemingly endless stairs, the two knights seemed to be the only color in the otherwise dull, grey room. Standing side by side, one was twice the size of the other, and while both were leaving a trail of blood behind them, the taller one's was significantly worse. The shadowy fog surrounding them seemed to move out of their path as they walked, only to quickly envelop the space behind them as they slowly walked upward. The sound of their tapping feet seemed to echo faintly in the walless expanse, leaving the labored breaths between the two to fill the void of silence. Without warning, the shorter one fell onto the stairs, simply breathing, unwilling to go on. The taller knight looked over, and wordlessly picked her up. Undoing the latches on her helmet, the extra weight fell freely from her head, letting her short blond hair poke around freely. The two stood there for a moment to listen to clinking of the helmet on it's way downwards, until it's sound grew faint. Taking a deep breath, the taller knight continued on with the woman in his arms.
"Why can't you come with me?"
The woman asked, her eyes straining to remain half open.
"...You know why. Only one can go."
The knight said, not bothering to look down as he continued onwards.
"It still hurts you know."
"I know"
"I never did thank you for that."
"You never needed to."
"I should've."
"..."
The girl's head went backwards as she rested it on the knight's arm. Her burning fever went unnoticed through the fractured steel plates on his arm. In a hushed tone, the woman's voice was accompained by a pained groan.
"Could you sing that song you told me about? The one you sang for her?"
Looking down slightly before looking straight again, the summit was finnally within view. Stopping a second to catch his breath, he began to remember and change the melody slightly. There was only a few moments left.
"Hush, little berry, don't say a word.
Rai's gonna catch you a flying bird."
He sang softly as he reached the top of the stairs, looking forward, there was a single escape pod in the smoke filled exspanse.
"And if that bird's no fun,
Rai's gonna buy you a proto gun"
Stepping forward, the pod didn't seem to be connected to any machinery at all. No wires, tubes, or latches at all, just the pod itself.
"And if that gun's boring as well,
Rai's gonna find you the shinest bell."
Pressing the button on the side, the hatch opened with a small gust of air.
"And if that bell turns out fake,
Rai's gonna make you a cake."
Placing the girl inside of the pod, Rai didn't know when she had started crying, but the tears had began to wash way the dried blood around her face. Kneeling down, Rai ripped a clean peice of cloth off of his frayed outfit. Wiping off her face, the girl weakly opened her eyes.
"And when the cake's all gone,
Rai's done singing 'till it turns to dawn."
Rai squeezed her hand tightly before backing up a few steps
"So hush little berry, and don't say a word...
Rai's just off to find that flying bird."
He said, as the pod's door sealed. After a few moments, the pod slowly faded away, leaving no trace of it ever having been there. Falling backwards, Rai's eyes wandered about looking at the smoke as it slowly encased him.
Goodbye.
How do I interact?
