I was taking a look at the comment section of the new promo update.
http://steamcommunity.com/games/spiralknights/announcements/detail/17257...

Page 8, yet to find a single positive comment. The majority of comments are composed of "Another promo?", "This game is dead" and "Where is the gunner update".

This is very disappointing.

I saw more comments about requesting being unbanned from the game than mentions of the gunner update (by page 5). Sure shows you about the quality of steam posters.

That'll put marzipan in your pie plate, bingo! <69

Is it disappointing because those smelly steam users are wrong and need to be shown that deep down the majority- yes, even them- love being kept in the dark and fed promotions endlessly? Or is it disappointing because the majority of players seem in this case to actually be quite tired of waiting and being told nothing, and that perhaps the majority of people posting on the forums are not the majority at all?

Either way, I smell the unbeatable "can't poll opinion!" argument that never moves because not one of us can in fact poll opinion coming up-- and by god, if whoever is commenting against Three Rings can't somehow find a way around the fact that there could be a legion of players that love grinding 24/7 with shard bombs for radiant fire crystals, then they're bound to be entirely and completely wrong. And so am I, because I contradict myself and am an idiot-- two properties that hurt the fabric of logic at its core.

@Skepticraven

I think the thread is more about general negativity than complaints about the gunner update. I'm also not sure that the quality of their posts makes much difference to their opinion.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

this game is slowly becoming the sonic the hedgehog community: you can never ever appease them no matter what you throw at them. actually, the community is already in an advanced state: we have guys who think that the game is dead and prefer old times, we have guys that say that the company is only trying to make money, and I bet my lower back that there will be guys rambling lots and lots about the gunner update. we only need guys that think that this game is lost whatever OOO will do and we will be like the sonic the hedgehog community.

"this game is quickly becoming an average gaming community"

Fixed that for you.

It doesn't take much effort to look at every other publisher, developer, and franchise's fanbase to find similar if not the exact same behavior you're trying to describe. If people can have this mindset about this game, very little stands between them from thinking the same about other franchises that they enjoy. I wouldn't go and compare us to one in particular but all of them. This is normal, and dare I say... healthy? Companies know they will never appease all of the fanbase because they will always be diverse, there will always be nostalgia lovers and those who embrace the changes and as consumers we will always be warranted to criticize the product, all of which aren't necessarily bad.

Obviously the devs ignore negativity. They stay away from the "annoying comments" sections.

There are just too many people that do not deserve to play video games since they don't have any respect for them. But when they take out their money, the industry goes down to their knees and honor them regardless. It's a very screwed up system.

Actually, I am not strong on one side or another. When I said "disappointing" I meant on both sides. The part of the community for being so pessimistic and negative and the developers for... well... giving the community reasons to.

One question; What the heck do you expect!?!
This game haven't got content updates in a year, that time was spent only on promos. Do you REALLY think that we will get happy because of next promo instead of content!?!?

What's funny is that despite the negative comments there, a mod actually participates in censoring bad opinions on steam. They come on and kick people from the steam group so they can't post negative stuff in the discussion (like they don't ban your sk account or from these forums, but block a specific steam account from simply posting a response in the official group. ). And yes, this has happened. Of course you could make another steam and post, but I find it very lame an OOO admin does this. Because censoring a paying customer who spent a ton of money ALWAYS makes him want to be a return customer. /s

Thanks who ever that admin was for helping me stop spending money on this game. Whenever I get the feeling that I want to buy something in this game now I'll just remind myself of that and think no.

Edit: before anyone wonders what happened.. Screenshot of temp banned screen flagged by GM as breaking steam tos so they could unshow it from the steam screenshots upvoted list, as it had amassed multiple votes. There were identical screenshots but they singled out mine because it had more votes. Then the only active mod who admins the group then kicked from group. Next time check who you're censoring, as not everyone on steam who is unhappy about the game is free to play.

glad you asked

getting kicked from steam group: http://i.imgur.com/AMccGmK.png

Was a screenshot from getting banned for clicking buy on the vees during the vee incident: http://i.imgur.com/myy86A9.png
Had no intention of selling them and thought they'd be auto-cleaned up anyhow (You can laugh, but large numbers as a joke were the reason for clicking, it was 4 am when the issue happened). I already was invested into sk with a few hundred dollars, so I doubt I'd try to purposefully screw myself over on that. In any case that screenshot only counts as negative publicity, not any sort of "look here to hax" or some stuff that should legitimately get removed.

Oh, and they conveniently skipped some identical images from other users that had a lower vote count.

Nice knowing the company likes making users who spend real money on the game feel like they're poop and can't be trusted. But don't worry, those f2p people who clicked the buy button slightly less during the incident and insidiously spammed the AH with them can walk off with a slap on the wrist.

Giving a company money doesnt give you the green light to break the ToS. OOO's official statement on this topic. "Penalties have been issued to the folks who clearly took advantage instead of reporting the problem to us per the Terms of Service’s instructions."

Well now we know all Steam users are whiny jerks. Is that the point of this discussion?

Let's get this clear, there is NO PROBLEM. It doesn't exist. All the negativity comes from the community because they're evil. There is no cause and effect conspiracy here, just some angry dudes who are aiming to destroy everything we stand for. There is no need to understand these types of people, everything they do is a personal attack against everything GOOD.

Help the community by not discussing such negative things.

Oh, I know that it doesn't. Just that in a context sensitive manner OOO has complete control over its own interpretation. Anyhow, I didn't post in this thread to have a 10 ten page argument on this, you clearly can see I still play the game. I posted in this thread to show that OOO censors people it in the steam threads, when clearly the only reason to is to block negative publicity. All I can say is OOO shouldn't be surprised if I don't buy promos, because rubbing poop all over me isn't gonna make me. Oh, and btw, there were people who had a second look because they used money. Count how many in EoS got banned during it, I just wasn't on their gm alt clique for that capability.

Petater:
What makes you think that the SK subforum on steam are OOO employees?
Here is a link from the old steam forums. 3/10 were OOO staff. They definitely seem more protective of the animosity for moderators now (can't seem to find the new steam community moderators).

Sure OOO staff probably has the ability to moderate their game's forum on steam... but as you have already said - do they censor on their official forums? This is more likely a steam moderator responding to player reports (that little flag on the top right of every post). Yours was probably flagged and removed because more people saw it to reported it. You could also be right with OOO censorship conspiracies, but I have my doubts.

Except the only mod active on the new forums is almost definitely an OOO employee. Almost all the OOO employees are on steam, even former employee nick is (of course I won't list his steam here as he probably doesn't want/need a hundred friend requests), every one of them uses a low key account. Two are listed as "Spiral HQ" and are dormant accounts, there's only one listed as administrator who isn't, and has the used promo images as taken from his steam (Guy who doesn't play sk except for 5 minutes, has 35kce, and brings cobalt to t3 ld seems legit, although this seems even legiter.). Also the post was flagged immediately as I was kicked, and that people have posted the same image for ages with immunity. Likewise, there were other images out there that were identical, but only this one was flagged. Hiding behind obscure mods doesn't justify this censor though, OOO has a final say because it's an *official* steam forum. Not to mention a game master could read this right now and override it if he/she wanted to, but I'm betting they won't.
