Lag, freezing, and disconnects

Recently, when playing any MMO (not just SK), the computer has been lagging which results in the computer freezing. This occurs whenever I open my inventory, look at my character page, load to a new destination, or when monsters appear. The screen will freeze and the music will skip over and over. Sometimes the game fixes itself, which usually ends in a disconnect but not always. Most of the time, the entire computer freezes and the only way to fix it is to hard reset (none of the key commands work either).

I'm using a Vista (I know, I know) desktop computer. How can I fix this?

Core Temp is an easy program

Core Temp is an easy program to monitor CPU core temperature via the processor's internal diode.

Thanks for the link! Okay, so

Thanks for the link!
Okay, so I used the computer for an hour, and I had a constant temp of 21 C (about 70 F). I'm assuming this is a normal temp, yet the computer still froze on me. I tested it out with World of Warcraft, as I don't care as much if I disconnect in a dungeon in WoW as I would with SK.
So I was just messing around killing things to see if the game would crash on me. It happened twice; once while entering the queue for a dungeon and the other while simply walking around. The first time, I was able to open the start menu, and the game unfroze after a minute. The second time was strange, 'cause I was able to walk around while the music was skipping over and over. The ambiance sounds did not skip. Only when I clicked anywhere did the game freeze, and I was forced to hard reset.
I did notice that while the game was running I had a load between 30% and 100%, mostly closer to the 100% side. When the game crashed the first time, the load dropped to the 3-5% range. I wasn't able to monitor the load during the second crash.
I was chatting with my friend and he said it may be my video card overheating. Thoughts?

(Oh, and the freezes started about the same time that I found the fan cover caked with dust, as it was sandwiched against the monitor. I dusted it off, and pretty much the next day all this started. Most likely unrelated, but uncanny, no?)

Problem solved.

So today I opened up the computer and used compressed air to get rid of all the dust. Turns out the computer uses a built-in graphics card that's underneath the fan. Now that the dust is gone, the game runs fine.

So, lesson learned. Clean out the computer once in a while.
