While I did not own one myself, I do miss their intended usefulness for guild runs. It felt like one more reason to return to a guild hall. But in exchange for its use, we ended up getting unlimited runs. So I guess it is not too bad of a thing.
AKA Mist Wells
Thanks for your thoughts on something irrelevant and misusing AKA!
Also, unlimited runs aren't "not too bad of a thing". They're better than mist wells any day of the week. (In my opinion)

what a wonderfully nice and welcoming forum community
why
@Mystrian: I actually forgot to ask what I wanted to ask at the point of posting. Thank you for the redirection. My question: What is the point of owning an Energy Well now when energy does not play as great of a role as it once did in game?
@Batabii: It means "Also Known As", correct?
@Blitz-Winger: You are welcome. And I was actually content with the limited access to everything within clockworks as I did not mind planning around energy consumption. Similar to planning for how to get a guild out of default as a guild effort (something I still want to experience), a good collaborative effort can have promising results, I suppose. However, as I agree with you to some extent, your opinion is always welcomed, Blitz-Winger. =]
@Muttsmut: It happens. As long as you do not let this paint you a permanent picture of this community, I am all the more relieved.
They're pretty obsolete now, but it makes sense. With the game being more in the F2P hand, CE isn't needed as much just to play (since you know we used to have to "pay" 10 mist or CE per level). If the wells still had their original purpose then less people would buy CE and such.
they make good hot tubs if you put the guild hall in dev mode ..they are very relaxing to sit in and have a soak with your friends :3
Mist well would be ok, but why the hell theres still minimal deposit limit!? THIS makes it totally nonsense!
Teh guild crystal forge. Merely drop a ton of CE and fire crystals in the well and out'll pop radiants. Baboom.
Coming to you in 2033
@Muttsmut
Trust me, I have seen some bad communities out there in my lifetime as a gamer, and SK community is a saint compare to some other ones.
@OP
My former guild had two of them, they were used frequenty back in the day of the mist (THE NOSTALGIA) by my GMs, and they were emptied instantly after the forge update. It is never safe to keep free CEs laying around. Still, giving mists to those who are more willing to grind on a certain day is way better off than just let them clump up in your tank. Thankfully none of those mattered now, perhaps you can still use them to decorate your guild hall?
CE changed to E and Mist Wells turned to Energy Wells a year ago, get with it
Some of us don't really care about being terminologically correct all the time.
Its not that, its just the terms "E" and "Energy Well" aren't going to catch on well. So we just still say CE and Mist Well, because that's what everyone knows them as.
Bahhh! I'd rather live in the good ol' days anyway *shakes cane*
@Pandafishie I agree.
The past is not always bad; Not everything needs to be contemporized. So what if the Spiral Order has improved their technology so energy (in any form) is no longer necessary. That does not mean we have to start renaming everything to reflect the fact that the game has changed.
Besides, the connection that "Crystal Energy" had with the story makes the term way better than the generic, uninteresting term "Energy." Even if that connection is no longer a visible part of the game, this "Energy" still serves the same function as "Crystal Energy" --you obtain it the same way, and it is used to make the same kinds of purchases. Thus, "Crystal Energy" reflects a part of the game's history and maintains a much stronger connection to the world of Spiral Knights.

"omgz lagggg!"
"ive been playin since 2010 so tht meens im beddr dan u"
kk guise, but really. i dun think it matterz cos ppl do what tey want in their own guilds ya know. let da ppl do wut they want ya? if u dun like it den dont use it. no prob den. if u want "free" ce use kongregate and do the surveys k? k. glad we had dis talk. it waz rlly nice. i feel all warm n fuzzy on the insides outs.
ps. we tech live in da past so lyk da "future" is the past. cray rite? supa cray. 80 milliseconds in da past cuz our brains r slow. science wid panda. kk bye.
EDIT:
@Mark
Exactly. That's why I use it. The term "energy" just takes away from the whole concept of it. IMO. And just by using CE for all that time... it is quite hard to break the habit.
@Pandafishie
Dat engrish. . dat speech waz reel gewd. . . I krie evri tym ;~;
@Mark
I totally agree, I've been using the term CE since my nub days, so that won't be changing anytime soon.
On those notes...
I would like to start another knight's journey from the beginning to explore the relevance of "Energy" and the "Spark of Life" within the game itself. And the lot of this is beyond the transactions involving knights and the supply depot. My trudge will be from the beginning only because I feel as if I can get more engaged with the story and the machinations within cradle within the process of telling the story itself, instead of having to rewind to do new missions that were installed earlier in the campaign. My memory does not work like that.
In an attempt to ascertain the perspective of a novice to the world of Cradle, these are some of the questions that I will have in mind.
While the lot of these are silly questions, I felt like the game actually explained how to make use of the game's conventions before the change of energy. And because I did not experience any of that, likely due to my Vanguard status as of a year and a half ago, I feel like some of the game's conventions are out of sync with the world of which they exist.
Like, I can deal with how they introduced battle sprites into the game. But both Energy and Sparks of Life are a little out of place to me still, even if I know how to effectively and ineffectively use them.
EDIT: Now I am off to see what NPCs can answer that for me without disrupting my game play or losing my attention.
...and? What are you wanting to talk about?
