Think about it... are we really helping the lower ranked players on their first "whatever" missions if we just dive in with our super sets and burn everything to the ground or are we keeping them from learning how to be a better player?

If we play a level with them (in our super set) and they die they will say that it is because they don't have good enough stuff, but if we play in armor that is comparable to their then they don't have that excuse. Instead of blaming armor or weapons for their lack of success they will instead look at themselves and say that they aren't good enough.... yet..

We as older, more skilled, advanced players need to inspire that spark of "not yet, but I will be" in the upcoming generation of knights.

lol, this is actually an issue in tutoring/teaching as well. If you help too much, they don't learn to fend for themselves and instead become reliant on you. I was a TA and I caught myself babying my students too much when I first started, but it really is better (and sometimes a little fun) to see them struggle, and even better when you see the "I GET IT NOW!" moment :)

:P if you want to help them out, pick up a gun to do some chip damage without screwing up their knockback (so they can learn to move/aim), or a bomb, because bombs are great team weapons.

Give a man a potato and he'll not go hungry for a day.
Teach a man to potato and he'll potato his way everyday.

@OP
I totally agree with what you're saying. Annihilating everything in a JK run for a newer player really doesn't teach them anything. I think it'd be better if the Vets helping the Newcomers explained what they were doing, what not to do, and let the Newcomer do some of the work.

@Zaffy-Laffy
That is seriously worth quoting.

Sounds like parenting.

Gotta have a mix of tough love and holding their hand along the way. Cross your fingers and hope they end up good. Give them a role model when they need one and kick them out of the nest when it's time to fly. Now when and how to do these things vary so much, generalizations don't really help so it's reliant on your best judgement according to the individual.

The ends often justify the means, but don't be so rough that they end up well but hate you for it. Go for the true/perfect ending, like in video games.

Now a lot of people do not think they need your help, so it's your call if you really want to help those kinds of players. It'll take more work though to get past their defiance, but you might just end up with a bestest buddy.

I plead the fifth. .-.

To be fair ill do a lot on elite and open up danger rooms, so it relies on at least new players not literally running into death for them to succeed.

This is why I hate beggars/leeches. They whine how hard it is, then get carried, and learn nothing.

I helped a Knight Elite on his first run through IMF yesterday. I often carried as much as I could with my Khorovod and Voltech Alchemer Mk II, and gave random advice, some nifty tricks and whatever. It was in clockworks, so he'll definitely have to go back and do it again for mission requirements, so I had no issues just pulling him through most of the time so he could get a little familiar with the place.
I prepared the blocks for the last fight before Twins, and let him go at it. Then I think I got him a little lost with my switching in the boss room, but it's really helpful to not have to think about switches on your first run, and just pay attention to hitting/dodging crawlers, rockets, and bullets.

Oh and it was on Elite, so no way was I going to let do any significant portion of the work. The guy was running with a (super) blaster, a brandish and lag :|

And as a side note, I think it was kind of helpful for him to watch me mostly solo the last part of a D13 poison-fiend Compound.

iono...
