I was thinking that I was going to get a striker, but now I'm having second thoughts.
Is the nightblade path better?
Is the striker path better?
??

P.S. Thanks for your advice everybody.

Wish forum search worked a bit better, there was a question very similar recently. :/ But pretty much...
The Striker -> Vile Striker is a great T2 weapon. In T3, even with a Dread Venom Striker, it is a bit dangerous to use. Enemies have enough hit points that they can no longer be killed quickly. Also the striker series lacks enough knockback to keep enemies at a safe distance. It is entirely feasible to use that sword, but you'll end up having to shield frequently, or move away, or get hit. Any of the other two - three hit swords are going to be easier to use at that depth.
I'll occasionally use my Dread Venom Striker for Jelly King runs, but really I prefer the slime-killing power of my Acheron instead. A wider arc and higher damage means that I turn the jellies to an incandescent pool much more quickly.
Since Acheron is half shadow damage, you'll want another sword to deal with creatures that are strong against shadow such as Undead and Fiends, like Drojanis mentioned. Or you can just go with a straight normal damage weapon such as the Levi if you want to avoid the cost of too many swords.
A pro-tip - don't bother with the Wild Hunting Blade. It looks cool, but there are better beast swords such as any 5* in the Flourish line. Also, trading a chance of poison for a bit of extra damage against beasts isn't a good trade-off.
I ran around with a cttuer, then a striker, then a Vile striker for quite some time. Its a good sword, dont get me wrong... However, I switched to a nightblade, and I never looked back. I still have my Vile Striker, but I now have an Acheron, and I use that almost exclusively. That combined with a Hail Driver, Im always doing t least neutral damage to targets,: more often than not my weapons are very effective, and are giving me gold numbers. PLus, the Charge Ttack from the Nightblade actually does something (i.e. knockback) so thats a huge bonus.
Just my opinion, from a Nightblade convert.
I got the nightblade recipe for a excellent price only 5500 crowns! Nightblade seems to be better.
So thanks guys!

You could've bought the recipe in Hall of Heroes for only 4,000 crowns...
[EDIT] I'm very sorry for the necro. I saw it in the new posts area of the forums and I decided to give feedback :( I completely forgot to check the date.
You could've considered the endgame... Elemental weapons tend to be more widely usable. Of course, you'll want to make two weapons for the endgame anyway. Preferable is often an elemental one and a piercing one because Undead are the most commonly encountered if you're gonna be like 90% of Cradle and spend all your time in FSC and Fiends are simply plain terrible to face. Since you're a swordie, as I understand it, using a toothpick vs Gremlins and any elemental swords vs Slimes won't be that bad.

It wholly depends on your preferences. Nightblade is a slower 3-strike sword, but does shadow + normal, making it better for gremlins and slimes, not as good for undead and fiends. If you have a cutter, and like it, keep with it. If you don't, try that first. Nightblade is a brandish line, so you can try one of those out, as well, but it's pretty similar to the Proto sword.
