Seeing as this mission is pure faceroll, I'm inclined to tune the difficulty down as far as it'll go. Would that affect shell drops though?

Yes a lower difficulty does

Yes a lower difficulty does mean less shells, but in T3 all difficulties yield at least to shells and even on elite (in my experience) 2 shells per run is very conman.

Theres a better way and i wish i should have remember this way, if you want to do tortodrone runs without wasting spark or less risk to waste a spark, get a friend or another knight with the rank 4-2 (soldier) and make the party on elite mode and also this will let you play at depth 9 where you will get from 2 to 4 shells, since its hard to the party to die at this depth because tortodrone deals less damage and devilites-greavers are less dangerous here.

That's...pretty much cheating.

@Batabii

The mission itself is cheating from OOO's side, so it's fair to cheat them back.

Well you can consistently do it without sparks on S6 Elite if you have the know-how. And trinkets. Probably shouldn't go without trinkets.
