I know there are many things that influence the outcome of the prize wheel (such as whether or not you have 100% HP), but when you go deeper into the clockworks, does your chance of getting a lockbox increase?

I'm curious about this too,

I'm curious about this too, because when I'm short on health or consumables, it usually gives me one or the other. The rest of the time it's almost always crowns. I've only gotten one lockbox out of maybe 500 rolls.

Increasing lockbox Chance

There is a way to increase your chances of getting a box though I don't know if its actually works or if its worth it. The game will not give you a box if you have on in your inventory, so if you have one mail it too yourself so that it will be out o your inventory. Another way to increase your odds of getting a box is to have opened a lockbox recently.(Again I don't know if this really works or if its worth it). Other then that simply keep your consumable inventory full so you won't get one from the prize wheel, try and keep your self at full health so you won't roll hearts, and keep trying.

I believe one way is to

I believe one way is to actually have a silver key in your inventory without any box to complete it. I'm not entirely sure. I also don't have the funds to test this, sadly.

I do know that opening a box increases your chances, because I magically get two or three boxes within an hour of opening any lockbox. I'm pretty sure this is intentional.

no

Lockboxes from the prize wheel are rare, so teasing out their chances is difficult. Doing it well requires large amounts of carefully curated data. I have never seen such a data set (and I keep my eye out for data sets of all kinds). Anecdotally, my guess would be "no".

The game will not give you a box if you have on in your inventory, so if you have one mail it too yourself so that it will be out o your inventory.

I have received a lockbox while another was sitting in my arsenal. So that idea is wrong.

Another way to increase your odds of getting a box is to have opened a lockbox recently.

Anecdotally, this seems believable to me. My friends and I have seen a lot of lockboxes shortly after opening them. But I don't have real data.

Yeah I have like 10 lockboxes (most of which are from over a year ago) and I never opened a single one, so idk where they came up with that.

Real data can be found in the game but posting it would be easily result in a ToS ban.

Without breaking ToS, you end up with a lot of people saying they've found iron lockboxes after opening one which there's clearly something going on here then.

It was blatantly obvious that

It was blatantly obvious that opening boxes dropped more boxes during the first day of the original hallow box event. People who opened a bunch of key-less boxes redeemed from earning tokens found themselves being swamped with iron lockboxes - this was quickly patched out.

It is unclear if the patch affected all key-less boxes or only 'free' ones, I would tend to assume the latter, but this is SK we are talking about so it's quite possible they forgot to make a distinction between the 'free' and 'pay' boxes.

@Glacies

How would recording data be against the ToS?

A test could definitely be set up to record data upon opening lockboxes, the same way data has been obtained from rolling for UVs - by buying silver keys ingame and opening lockboxes.

That being said - no one has publicly attempted to do this yet and it is a finicky thing to record. One would need a large quantity of data, recording of all the variables, and a control (not opening LB's at all). All evidence thus far is anecdotal, has hidden the methods of testing (which could violate the ToS), or is not public.

Additionally there are 2 sure methods of limiting the possible outcomes for the prize wheel:
Step on the elevator at full health. {Removes hearts}
Step on the elevator with all 4 pickup slots filled with 3 items each. {Removes pickups}
This may either increase the chance of crowns or all possible rewards other than the ones removed.

inspecting code or something

Recording data isn't against the Terms of Service. We do it all the time. Glacies must be referring to inspecting some data in the program files?

There really isn't a need to collect data just to satisfy the requirements of a few.
I'd be skeptical if one person said it, but it seems to be repeated by many people and I've noticed it myself.

Besides, if one wouldn't believe what people are saying, why have any belief in data one has not personally collected?

By the way, I didn't get a box since last month and felt like opening them so I opened an iron box last night to kick the prize wheel and got a silver box on my next try.
Also, I was one of the ones who got a ton of lockboxes after opening Dark Harvest boxes the first day.
