Hello sir knights,
Some of you may remember me. Some of you may not.
That is besides the point.
I joined Spiral Knights in early 2011. I've been "playing" for three years now, with only 232 hours logged.
I began playing this game, because December 31st, 2010 was when I first got my own PC and I wanted an easy introduction to the mmo experience. Spiral Knights had gameplay that seemed simple enough to not require a genius or a massive spreadsheet to play it, and the art style is quirky and unique. At first, SK was everything I wanted it to be and over the course of a year I had put in over 100 hours, and I had worked my way up to a full set of four star gear. But a before then, I had begun playing other MMOs. These MMOs were more difficult to master, but were more immersive, and had unique mechanics that set their gameplay apart from others. I also noticed that those MMOs released updates more frequently, and when they did update their games, the patches had a lot of totally new features. These MMOs also had Public Relations Officers in their forums. Those are people whose jobs are to communicate with the community, and take their feedback and give it to developers. Spiral Knights has a very small dev team, yet they have a whopping sixteen public relations officers who almost never respond to anything posted in the suggestions forum.
What does this say to me? That either SEGA is pulling all of the ropes here, or the Spiral Knights team just doesn't give a cluck. Either way, it is very disappointing. I feel like the community as a whole is being neglected, because inside these forums you will find hundreds of incredible suggestions that would set Spiral Knights apart from the other MMOs, and make the game worth playing.
I left just after December, 2013. Before then, I had been going on and off in the fall of 2013. So what happened? The gunslinger update was what really frustrated me. The gunslinger update was something I had been hoping dearly for; I play gunslinger, and the game had/has such a focus on the versatility and power of swords. The gunslinger update was supposed to remedy that. What happened to it? I still don't know. It's August, and the update was announced in November. The team kept pushing it back. It drove me nuts. And then, I thought about it. Why the cluck am I even expecting something so simple as a few low poly meshes, some low res textures, a spot of java here and some copy-pasted rigging? I shouldn't be expecting versatility like this, because it SHOULD BE THERE, DARNIT!!! The constantly recycled content, the lack of communication, all of it! This isn't some sort of mysterious occurence; I blame the team, until they provide evidence to prove my theory wrong. What is my theory? The team has stopped caring about the game.
What needs to happen? Stop recycling content, make new content, introduce unique mechanics. There are tons of suggestions out there, just flipping read them already!
you should have played the test server, or just read some topics in the test server subforum. the changes are pretty major, and it's probably not only that.
Hyperion and Atlanta undirectly stated that GMs pretty much aren't allowed to give opinions on suggestions because their speaking power is way more than normal players. personally I keep referring to a post of Nick every time a dual wielding suggestion pops up.
GMs are obliged to read every post, at least to check the posts for swears and such.
enjoy your gaming future.
