How good is Armor of the Fallen for Lockdown?

The Fallen is really cool. It gives glass cannon defence (62.5 shadow and normal, compared to 62.5 shadow and 71 normal from Snarby), in addition to a completely useful bonus as well as ok resistances.

The instance of usage I'm talking about is of course with Black Kat Cowl because Black Kat Cowl is silly overpowered and more or less all top-tier players use it. With BKC, one of the following are usually used:

  • Vog Cub Coat
  • Justifier Jacket/Nameless Poncho
  • Snarbolax Coat
  • Chaos Cloak
  • Ancient Plate Mail

Of all these, I'd go as far as to say that bringing Fallen is just plain better than the other items that provide attack speed increase, as long as you're going with both guns and swords, which most people do.
While ASI Low may not be very notable, it's still there in effect and it will make a difference for both guns and swords. It will also allow you to get more than base Shadow defence, unlike any of the other listed pieces that provide ASI. On top of it, you get some really handy resistances, which the class pieces provide slightly less of.

So what's the deal with it all? Why is Fallen so incredibly neglected, when it clearly can be used with a greater effect than more common pieces?

I know Blueflood used armor

I know Blueflood used armor of the fallen with a BKC. It makes you look like a gender-confused kat, bit undoubtedly helps.

A more common combo of the fallen armor is the Crown of the Fallen with Snarby Coat, very effective.

First of all, it's a dress. Spiral Knights is all about the looks for some.

In my case the ASI wouldn't help my swords I use the most while playing striker.

AT ASI bombs ftw!

i run all of the suggestions mentioned thus far (BKC + AotF, full AotF, and AotF) to play around with in LD - the universal bonuses across the board make it great, and it serves to offset the penalties that the BKC offers in some cases as well

second one is absolutely amazing for practicing using as little damage bonuses as possible with next to no drawbacks

the last mentioned is my bombwalker set as a striker - aka "what are bombs - ret 2014"

if you want an elemental version of this, the closest you can get is nameless + vog for ASI bonuses, but since BKC + fallen isn't conducive to bombers anyway, it's a suitable replacement for availability purposes

it's pretty fragile all in all, i admit. but do keep in mind that even with those lowered defenses, you'll usually still die in the same amount of hits, save for antiguas or blitz chipping once.

tl;dr: i recommend this armor, if only to look SO PRESH SO FRESH when you're headed into LD

Ah, yes. Strikers with ASI VH UVs don't benefit much from this. If you do have just High or less, it has an effect, though.

Personally, I mostly see myself using Fallen with Recon because that's where being a hybrid is at to me. Guardian could use it, but the DI you can get from Snarby+BKC is probably more desirable.
