I'm toying with making a new forum game. Before I do so, however, I'd like to gauge the audience.

  • Who wants to play?
  • What type of game do you want to play?
  • What story do you want to tell?
  • What tropes would you like to involve?
  • What is your preferred GM style?
  • Do you have a preference for which character I play?

And such like. Let me know what you want out of the next game.

First reply, shell yes.

I do.

A fun one.

One that is filled with fallen heroes and worshiped tyrants.

Erm, pass?

Either have a character in their that's not the main or simply narrate.

No, not really.

Noted!

Fallen Heroes: The Spiral Council; Almire
Worshipped Tyrants: Ti'Lana deKraken; Lady Madeline Grey; Diavolo Sintaris

Just an idea.

Ahah, Once again we gather.

I'd have to agree with Marufuji.
However, It'd be difficult with my. . . Unreleased RP.

I'd like to.

Fun, with some action and comedy in the mix. Maybe something that gives off a high or at least moderate HSQ.

Something along the lines of Betrayed Protagonists trying to set things right.

Pass as well. EDIT: Actually, that HSQ part probably belongs here.

One that doesn't downplay other player characters.

I kinda like Gwen's character, but otherwise, nope.

Thx!

Betrayal & HSQ? Totally Lady Grey's territory. Gwen doesn't even pale..

Game type

Okay, I'm seeing a lot of nebulous answers on what kind of game do you want to play. Of course you want to play "fun" and "interesting" games; who wants to play a boring game?

Do you want action, mystery, romance...you know, types of games you might want to play.

For #6, I'll give you a list of choices.

  • Tough Gwenivere
  • Soft Gwenivere
  • Astran Valderis
  • The Finder
  • Lady Grey
  • other custom characters

Uhh....durr...

Not me. Unless I'm co-GMing or playing 60% NPCs. They're cute.

A roleplay that isn't all about killing and trying to be the #1 hero when people clearly can't coherently, logically get their character to do so because they can't improvise. (So that's why I write in civilian settings so much more...wow...)

I'm already telling mine, but I'd like to see other people play with 25% violence instead of the usual 200%. (So that's why there's much dialogue, wow...)

None.

When you don't have to constantly say what can be done and what can't be done because SOMEBODY wants to be #1 hero... (So that's why I've given up RPing [for the most part] on this site...wow...)

Side characters and NPCs. Like Max and Astran. (Unfortunately, this isn't possible because we have SOMEBODY who doesn't know self-restraint. Also, can someone please [a href] links to what should NOT be done in an RP? Oh...wait...we already tried that...)

Constructing a story.

The players whose suggestions I've interpreted are linked accordingly.

Gametype: Action/Intrigue, emphasis on intrigue. Action sequences must be judicious and meaningful.
Story: Dealing with fallen/ancient heroes and deposing godlike tyrants, where the protagonists were betrayed.
Tropes: Holy Scrap Quotient: surprises & plot twists.
GM Style: Non-main, supporting, reasonably-powered character with which to drive the story. Sorry guys, but that's technically impossible. A weak, non-main character cannot drive the story. If you really don't like story-driving characters, choose a different GM style.
Character Preference For Who Thinslayer Plays:

  • one vote for Gwenivere
  • one vote for Astran Valderis
  • one vote for other character

Probably should've been more clear...

When I said "doesn't downplay other characters", I meant as in the GM themselves. Certain roleplays and stories that uses characters made by others have said characters dulled down (sometimes quite severely) from the supporters' intended portrayal, either accidentally or intentionally. Luckily, that doesn't happen a lot, especially with people like you, Vin, and Atg as the GM or Narrator of the story. I just feel that was something that needed to be said before we get the ball rolling. I didn't know we were referring to the GMs' in-story character.

Or we could all just be demigods, fighting the forces of hell to keep balance in the galaxy. That could be a thing.

Speaking of downplaying...

That was something I recently talked with Sho-Marufuji about, actually. One of the most critical factors in maintaining player interest is making every player feel important. Downplaying them is counter-productive to the game and just drives players away.

New, approach! Crossing my fingers this time.

I want to see an RP that really forces characters to come alive; make each character a special one. We spend at least some notable effort making these characters, and I want their existence's to be meaningful. Character development, basically. I know it's tricky to do such, and it really is up to the character's author, but it'd make a better read.

I also want, as mentioned before, a game with a defined beginning, middle and end. I would gladly forego freedom for actual plot. The plot itself doesn't concern me. Though taking certain popular concepts and forging a tangible goal with it rather than, just do whatever, ambiguously, could really get at the realism of the RP.

One thing I rarely see in stories is the grey area. Too many reads nowadays say, "Good guy here, they protagonist. Bad guy there, they antagonist." I would love to see an RP where there truly is an "either side could be right, but with the cost of negative consequences". Just reading novels with that concept are great, thus it'd be even better having RP players fighting for different values on a fictitious battlefield.

Because of the aforementioned, a strong GM style, where players, environments and actions are all led carefully would suit me, considering I've yet to see a sufficient effort to do such, as I understand it is quite difficult.

And to be honest, since I've seen Gwen so much, she's my favourite :P

Judging from what you've described, you would feel very at-home in "Condemned." The central characters are morally gray, the plot is well-defined, carefully concocted and very twisted, and a few (though, unfortunately, not enough) characters have important roles in the story.

I will endeavor to craft this story with as much care as I have in Condemned.

Well

Seeing as we discussed this, Thin, I might want some romance? And Mystery. Mystery definitely is good. Not that much combat, more problems, and maybe some romance. Idk, man.

Anyone who's wondering who I am, I am the forgotten Topo. (Topoyozada, Topoyozariane, Cobalterian, Topogaming. xD)

Romance, eh?

Romance can certainly be arranged; though, given the plot that's developing between Vin & I, it's likely to end badly.

I seriously hope Jester-Gtr gets to my commission soon - I'd like to use that character in this game. ;_;

Hmm.

I have an interesting thing I've been toying around with that I want you to try, If you would please.
A simple idea, yet much more immersive.
To learn things about NPC's (Or eachother), and possibly cause romance, The players must ask the person directly, Albiet at the right times.
That's about all there is to it.
What do you think? It's like having an extra hidden Bio.
And it'll give more/better uses for flashbacks.
---
Edit: @Thinslayer: Why not use that character, and one other?

but yeah i know what you mean .-.

Her idea of romance might be torturing her bf. xD

Liminori's idea is pretty good. No understanding-everything-in-one-glance anymore! Just post a simple application, looks, and stuff, history, and everything will be in-game! Or... in-forum? in-RP?

:P

@Thinslayer I always imagined Lady Grey with some kind of.... violent streak with her boyfriends. xD

We're doing an RP, in case that was unclear.

Lady Grey is the bossy type, but she does have a violent streak against her boyfriends, if _________ ____ when they cheat is violent enough. Malkalack's character Eron tried to romance her, but he couldn't stand being told what to do and often had shouting matches with her. He's got something coming to him ever since he left her. >:3

The "other" character and Gwen will be the most likely candidates for romance.

We can't always be all action or all suspense. Some comedy is required to lighten the mood. Like for instance that one scene in RtC2, after everyone was dismissed to the first White Council member.

About Comedy

I'll do my best to have some comedy. Condemned had some of that at first, particularly when people messed with Lady Grey and ruffled her feathers. Honestly, I find her reactions hilarious.

Finding comedy in this game might be a bit difficult, but I'll keep an eye out. ;-)
