A change to Shadow Lairs and Endgame Farming

We all know that Shadow Lairs are amazing. They are challenging, offering unique environments and enemy match ups to sate a players palate after exhausting the rest of the game's options. However, they are very rarely completed due to the high entry cost. Here's a proposal to change that.

We know that Three Rings isn't above redesigning major parts of the game, as with the energy system. My suggestion is to change the Shadow Key's purpose, instead allowing access to the Sanctuary and/or the Unknown Passage.

What this does is allow a healthy alternative to the Firestorm Citadel situation. Everybody knows this is the best place to farm crowns and radiant fire crystals. I know people who play the area up to 10 times a day. They do it out of necessity, not enjoyment. These types of game are prone to farming, and honestly, I don't have a problem with that. The farming needs to be enjoyable however, and the standard FSC gameplay can only hold up so much.

Another suggestion would be to change the payout of Danger Missions, considering their brutal difficulty and need for sparks for some players.

If Shadow Keys were instead used for the Unknown Passage and beyond, this still keeps in with the lore. It also keeps the high level rewards of Shadow Lairs behind the same barrier as before, making them highly sought after. But it seems a shame to lock the Shadow Lairs behind the keys as well. I have played Gloaming Wildwoods before, I enjoyed every second of it. Including the Rabid Snarbolaxes.

But would I pay that much to play it again? Not a chance.

And that is the real shame. That all this amazing content is locked off, due to some arbitrary reason. Let us play the Shadow Lairs as much as we see fit. Give an alternative to FSC, while still retaining the Shadow Lair's difficulty and exclusivity.

Yep im in for it +1 i never was on a Shadow lair run, and i not planning to go on one if i have to pay for it, if it aint free im not doing it :/

And this seems like a good alt, i hate FSC's way of handling grinding, its always the same, stage 1 stage 2 stage 3 stage 4 all the same thing.

I would like to see something like this, A nice clean update, not much would be need to be changed ( grammar bad mun)

But let me ask some Q's :

If this was added, would the shadow keys prices be dropped?

To compensate for the Keys price, the shadow passage creatures should drop a gold coin each, until the gates that are lcoked due to them are destroyed?

The Sanctuary should have some more stuff added to it, make it a option to go there instead of Haven if you use a shadow key on any 3 bosses atleast once?

Should the Sanctuary be a endgame thing like tier 4? - or a Post game area leading up to teh core area?

Watcha thunking?

Eh, it seems fine.

I'm still gonna respect the limitations that Three Rings put in.

I don't think the price should be dropped, it's fine where it is. Especially with this change.
Shadow Passage enemies shouldn't drop anything. It symbolises that struggle to get to the sanctuary, as well as making the actual sanctuary special.

I honestly don't think anything about how the Shadow Lairs fundamentally work needs to change, just how they are handled in-game.

Use the SL material to craft

Use the SL material to craft a discounted key, much in the way the ID card is required for the Tortodrone fight.

Hmm...

With a change like this, we should expand more on the swarm. Fight through the shadow lairs, and reach the unknown passage. After fighting through the challenge that is the unknown passage, introduce a single swarm tortodrone, or maybe a new unique swarm-related boss. The boss would drop a shadow fragment (with a chance of 2 on elite difficulty) and afterwards you would descend another level into the sanctuary.

You could use these "shadow fragments" to craft a shadow key. Let's say... 5 fragments for one key. That means, if you play 5 shadow lairs you essentially get to play one "Free" (plus the crafting cost).

Being able to play shadow lairs whenever would make them more or less the only thing people would do to farm... Or at least the later-game players. Players will always go to wherever nets them the more reward for the least time, and if they can go to UFSC and get 4 times the radiant fire crystals in half the time, they will.

I do agree that shadow lairs need to have something that makes them run more often, but I don't think making them completely "Free" would do this.

You forget that the shadow lairs aren't meant to be a daily occurrence... initially, Three Rings had shadow keys as a 1% drop from lock boxes until the players angrily picketed them by the little garden in Haven. Really, Three Rings should have found a better way of handling the shadow keys than just selling them or lockboxing them away.. I'd love to have some kind of challenge at the core that occasionally rewards a shadow key, or even just being handed one by the game and then having a chance of receiving one at the core every visit. Maybe even a timed event that they could have used to sell their ridiculous boxes alongside.

Or...

Actually, it would be great if we got them from the prize wheel... but only while running the arcade.

If that's possible at least. Similar logic to lockboxes in that you would get another one soon after you used one previously. Maybe...
