Add Gender type in SK

Have ever some people in SK thought you were a girl, but actually a boy OR a boy but actually a girl. There are many names out there that cant be told what there gender really is, even if you have never been accused of a false gender you would think some guys and girls aren't really guys and girls. This should be added to improve Spiral Knights because it would be awkward if a boy would be flirting with another boy thinking he's a girl (pretty weird right?). It would make understanding better in a way and it will make a ton of people happy to tell who is who and what is really what. By doing this people can actually recognize other people's real life genders.Here are some ideas gender can be implemented in the game.
-The symbols of boy and girl can be place above there knight by there name like this. (prestige sign)(name example)(gender symbol). They can choose what gender they want when getting on there account. (For people who are beginning will make one while making there own knight).People need to be careful on what gender they pick. (meaning not to pick the wrong gender) This should be implemented on adding gender to people's knights to tell what they are in real life (because you wouldn't want to be called a He or She even though your not). That way everyone would get confused and start getting mad at each other, then people would need to tell them what gender they really are. In real life you can easily almost tell what everyone's gender is right? why not in SK. Many would really like this idea and think it would be a great one to be added in this game. Please think about this idea and for anyone who host the game should think this too.

Why? People lie about their genders on the internet anyways. no matter what you force them to pick.

Also move this to suggestions, please.

Nah.

This is a social game, but it's not social in the sense of "here is exactly who I am".

Plus it's fun to watch as people try to flirt with you when wearing one costume then never speak to you the moment you don't have a flower on...

I would like to be able to wear Dragon Scale Mail without changing genders.

I didn't read the OP, but the general idea has my yes.

@OP

Have you played other MMOs? Idk, lets take errr Rift for example.

Over half the character models in that game are female, buuuut everyone knows that probably around 75% of those females are actually guys. This is why you should never assume things about people you meet in games. Every once in a while you'll have a girl character say she is actually a guy irl. . . which I guess is a nice heads up if you were wondering.

To all people who still think I'm female, think again. (To elaborate, I ain't a girl >:( )

Why exactly do you need to

Why exactly do you need to know a players' gender? What bearing does it have at all other than what pronouns you should use?

And not to get all "social justice warrior," but there's more to gender than "boy" and "girl." Making me choose between those in a video game where I try to distance myself from such things would honestly drive me to quit unless I could just .. opt out and not pick. I play SK because I can just BE A PERSON, not reduced to my gender identity or genetics. I didn't choose to be born this way, I don't appreciate the harassment that I get solely for being a girl, I don't want the one game where I don't have to pick an obvious gender to be reduced to that so some kids can make sure they aren't mistaken for the wrong gender when a simple "no, I'm actually a ____" would suffice.

"BE A PERSON"

I mean yes we can forgo such assigned roles in the obvious sense that we are the definition of human regardless of external judgement, but can we ever truly exist as you say that we can outside this sort of euphoric environment? The romantic ideals that separate the humans from the animals would almost certainly dictate not and the death of romance would by extension be the death our humanity to begin with.

While I don't foresee any kind of outs, I can't help but feel that hiding can never be a dignified solution, especially (and with you and I as the finest example) when the set of people you're hiding among is a subset of the people you're hiding from.

I can't stress to say enough how remarkable it is to expect my friends to be this gender turning out to be the opposite. Gender please! They even added Gender in Runescape and modified the equipment for females.

Once I said the word cute in guild chat, just once in a joke. Am I a girl was the question asked soon after. Hell no I don't have a #@$&;!!

Joke: "girls look at me and call me cute hotty" (not even a joke) and I was asked if I was a girl. That is against the ToS!

No, we don't need gender options in SK. NO. It is not necessary at all, and why the heck are people flirting on this game?

I mean I've seen some knight costumes that look pretty sweet, but never have I thought "Hmm, this knight has a Tailed Helm (obviously a girl then). . looks pretty sexy. . Time to flirt!". How about you just not assume a knight is a girl or a guy until you get to know them a bit better, mkay?

Why are you so offended by being mistaken for other genders?

Players refer to me as both boy and girl, and I just respond to both because of my personality being strange(and personally not caring). But you can be civil and correct people if you are so inclined, no reason to rage. If your identity as a person is completely reliant on people knowing what gender you are then there might be a few things you need to change to prevent confusion, either within yourself or with your Knight.

I prefer the gender neutrality that we have right now as it makes people treat you like a person, not a gender. In other games, people will flock to characters with a female character model and praise them while male character models have to earn everything and are usually required to do anything due to the constant stream of messages that females tend to get. You can't be single in an MMO as a female, and I hate that. In this game, I've never gotten any free items because people assume my gender one way or another because the only proof they have is what my costume is. It keeps us a bit more humble and free from stereotypes.

So far, the only feminine

So far, the only feminine starting set is the pigtail helm and the size B or C armor.

But gender would get a bit too personal for this game, since more harassment would take place based off of it (sexual puns and such already happen, and with the game being 13+, its bound to get even worse with genders being known).

@Galaxthekillrmech

Allow me to clarify why you cannot just "BE A PERSON".

The game is meant for the humans to play, and the humans do not have the same idea of gender neutrality as we would like them to have, nor will most of them ever as they are too far lost in their ridiculous "reality" to face the truth. While the current gender neutrality present in the game works on a superficial level among strangers, deeper relations will inevitably force players away from such a system as other players will presume them to be one of the other humans playing the game and much of the time they are correct.

To truly escape from such a vice would be to disown yourself from ALL romantic ideals (i.e. the humans' concepts like right and wrong, feminine and masculine, Christmas, family) that you are a part of, which has a terrifying set of implications that are much much greater than just "gender neutrality".

While it would be very much possible to surround oneself with like minded people in an effort to create a sub culture of sorts, doing so would inevitably leave a larger portion of humans that due to their many biases regarding information would NOT begin to accept the change, and would somewhat defeat the point. In the larger scheme of things I have the strangest feelings that We will overcome such biases and live in a more free society, but the existing humans and any future humans that are set on opposing beliefs will all have to live and die before such a thing can happen. While using Spiral Knights as a safe haven might sound like a positive idea, there will inevitably be people coming in from all sorts of philosophical angles, including the ones that do not fit your gender neutral wonderland. Further, these sorts of humans have no more or less right to exist here than you or I.

^That would be the purpose of the sentence after the one you quoted- Further, these sorts of humans have no more or less right to exist here than you or I.

If the humans are honestly leaving because of your gender identity issues bothering them, then that's on you and not them. Spiral Knights may have gender neutral friendly outfits, but that shouldn't (and doesn't) make it some sort of virtual LGBT club. Rather, this is an MMO that happens to be friendly towards that genre of people, which is just dandy.

@Sonosuke sure. NP.

@Fehzor Yes you can just be a person. Its a video game! And besides, the reason(some) People like to not be thought of as a gender in video games is because HARASSMENT! The reason because of that is since your behind a computer, you can't get caught. But you still shouldn't do that, because it is wrong.
