So, why did OOO decide to switch from the Prize box as a bonus to buying energy, to just having them cost a straight 5 bucks? What the heck? I loved being able to buy energy and get a little bonus added on..
Prize boxes-What happened?
It's been just about a year since I played this game, one of two MMOs I've ever dared to play. I really liked it even when I had less of an income stream.
Now I just check in every so often to see what advances have come.
The way things are going, I simply have to think that the creative team of this game has all been sacked--all but one guy with a speed-dial to marketing.
Has anyone tried making a timeline of updates involving new enemies, levels, or equipment with new mechanics/features? Compare it with a timeline of these cosmetic-purchase releases (and this isn't even counting the really rare stuff that sometimes shows up in the Supply Depot to upset legacy players and vendors).
The frequent updates tell me the game is not development-dead yet. The NATURE of literally 14 out of 15 of these updates tells me it's suffered a fate worse than death instead.
A shame, too--I'd pay 20 bucks a box if they asked. But who wants to see my shinies in a game everyone is getting bored of?
Apparently you people must work over at Three Rings or even Sega, I'm amazed how much you all know about the financial state of the business.
Example from 2012:

Gaming company financial news gets a lot of journalism these days. People wanna know.
Me, though? I just wanna know when that gunner update will happen. Or we get new classes of weapons or enemies. Or whether we'll ever go past Depth 29. Or what the Crimson Order is up to besides selling prize boxes (I think this is their second or third time at it now).
fading, I think most people bought the boxes with energy as a bonus, not the other way round, so OOO jumped the gun.
Either way, I love getting little bonuses when I buy something. Having them separate things just kinda kills it for me.
I know that the friends I had who did pay into SK would save money then make energy purchases only when they came with other bonuses (or discounts).
I wouldn't be opposed to both methods at once being a thing, for the time being.
10 dollars of energy = 1 prize box
-or-
1 prize box = 5 dollars
I'd love if they could split prize boxes a bit. Like, current gremlin contents for the $5 box, and mender-styled art for the $10 box. Both boxes have the 1% items in them so you can get super lucky either way.
And as a paying player, I bought energy packs for the boxes. They made this switch after taking a survey, in which apparently a large sum of players said they bought into promos for the boxes, not the energy. Hence, they made this change, and I am a happy valkyrie.
SEGA is having money troubles. They make more money from Pachinko machines in Japan than video games worldwide. Less money to SEGA means less money to OOO, I know it may seem cheap of them, but they need to keep the boat floating somehow.
