Hearken ye young'uns. Stay a while and listen, to the tale of ye Great Garbage Collector.
'Twas a normal run through ye olde Ironclaw Munitions Factory in the Clockworks with two strangers. There was naught a problem until the end of the first floor. As the final fight was finishing up, Fe-Tarkus suffered a major freezin'.
When 'ere the treasures were opened, our hero noted that the Forge Spark had a queer, pixelated, black and red picture. Thinking nothing much of it, the protagonist moved onto the elevator, whereupon he beheld an incredulous sight! On the minimap, the elevator was blocked by a picture repeating a red "ERROR" on a black background. 'Twas weird, but nothing too worrying, so our heroes pressed onwards. But then Tarkus panicked, quickly pm'd a friend, for the elevator screen did not load and he feared disconnection.
Here in the second floor is where he beheld the full might of the majestic powers of ye Great Garbage Collector. Begone were the shadows that muddled with sight. Bright light filled the void and burned his eyes. After some seconds or more of rest, our hero perused what other grandiose altercations ye Great Garbage Collector hath delivered.
Teammates on ye minimap were ERROR squares, shielding made shield and health into errors, drops were errors, vitapod was an error, healing pips were mini-errors. Our heroes pressed onwards, pushing past the party button with gusto. Hereupon our hero checked his memory usage, and noted that he was using 3.7 out of his 3.9 GiB. Our hero had an inkling that ye Great Garbage Collector graced him with its almighty power, but now he knew for sure. Tarkus noticed more errors: Forge had no separation between the different equipment; No equipment icons showed; Event hub did not update; News did not load; Mail seemed to not be affected; Recipes had no separation; Arsenal had no separation. Then our hero erred, pressing too far and abusing too much of the grace of ye Great Garbage Collector.
Upon attempting to scroll through the Arsenal, ye Great Garbage Collector lashed out in fury and froze the game. Or was it actually fury, for our hero did not linger within the freeze and give time for the powers to work. Tarkus quickly restarted and they pressed onwards without the grace of ye Great Garbage Collector.
Trust the powers of ye Great Garbage Collector, and do not squander them as Tarkus had. Appreciate thy grace thou art given.

The texture you saw was exactly what it says it is- what happens when you fail to load or otherwise display a texture. I'd restart your computer and if it happens again, try fiddling about with your drivers and graphics settings.
