I have been messing around with various bombs for a while and I think I have found a nice way to use vortexes in an offensive way (enough to be a fun, viable solo strategy).

The general populace uses vortexes for collecting enemies so they or an ally can unleash a brandish or autogun charge into the group. What I have been doing is using a Voltaic Tempest to Shock groups of enemies and then using an Obsidian Crusher or an Electron Vortex to deal damage and help capitalize on the "Chaining" feature of Shock damage (by pulling shocked enemies together and holding them there). I'm Planning on upgrading my full set to include an AshOfAgni as well as a StaggerStorm. I'm wondering if this is a Viable plan or should I put my resources to making a Voltedge or Combuster?

It'll work well, but not against bosses.

I used to do that a lot to fight slimes and such, and it works. It doesn't work as quickly as vortex+brandishing them, but it certainly gets the kill. Of course larger mobs aren't going to be phased by it, but Zeddy already brought that up.

The other odd tactic that I found for the vortex bombs was to distract one set of enemies while taking care of another. If devilites are trapped in a vortex+getting shocked, they're effectively out of the picture for a good 5-10 seconds, more than enough time for you to go ruin something else's day.

Electron Vortex can sort of work in place of the VT. While it isn't guaranteed to shock, it will often shock at least one enemy when you have at least four enemies in the vortex or so. When one gets shocked, its spasm will keep the other enemies in place as well. A good solo buttkicking strategy is to place an Electron Vortex in a crowded area and then whipping out a Brandish or an Autogun (or a Wild Hunting Blade or Sudaruska/Triglav if you're feeling extra cool just that very day), charging it, and unleashing it into the crowd.

Short of slow melting the Royal Jelly, haze bombs aren't effective damage dealers against any token boss.

I can agree with the principle of your statement but using Devilites as an example isn't that good (considering they can still aim and throw chairs at you) instead Scuttlebots would be better.

Naw scuttles you can just smash or chain with the bomb, no problem. Devilites and things that escape/throw stuff at you it can incapacitate them... cuz you're right, they WILL throw stuff at you. But if they're in a vortex, it makes it harder for them throw stuff at you. Not the best tactic, but still.
