New rooms after bosses?

Forgive me in advance, I know these won't truly be "new" to you veterans.

I have been on a hiatus of sorts. I have not played in maybe 6-8 months. On my return I've noticed weird rooms after bosses that I could swear weren't there before. It's a metal, lab-like room with a sort "base" that looks like it held or could hold some kind of canister or pod, maybe a power source. Some of these rooms are pristine, and other are broken and bashed, but neither contains anything in the place it appears would hold something.

Were these added in the time I was away? I could swear I've ever seen them before.

Yes, they were added

Yes, they were added recently. No, we don't know why yet. But the "base" looks suspiciously like it once held a duplicate of the power supply that you found in the intro mission.

That's what I was thinking

That's what I was thinking too! Thanks for chiming in, and sorry if this is a "necro" or old news in some way.

Its pretty much Three Ring's attempt at adding more story to SK, which I'm curious where they will be going with this.

It's a small sign of

It's a small sign of progress, so I was happy to see it. But it was one of those things that was so subtle I couldn't tell if it was just me not remembering it or not.

Release/all is your friend

The wiki page Release/all lists all of the release notes. The ones you're looking for are 2014-05-21. By the way, the most interesting change to a mission ending was not any of the boss missions, but rather Spark and Roar.

I think I know what it is

ok stay with me here as of this room there are to of these rooms and what if these rooms contain 2 individual artifacts and these artifacts were the key to the core lets say the alpha team found one of the keys ( i would assume the one at the end of VANA) and with this artifact they enter the core with the key as for the other artifact I would believe that the JK had this key in the end of the boss room which you be a personal treasure vault or something and was taken by the Crimson order and was in the possession of Razwog at the time that we stole but on to have it stolen from us by Herex so... or it could be a stretch in the story but....

My personal theory is that the Artifact found with Razwog (and subsequently stolen by Herex) was originally in the room after JK. This stems from the fact that the device behind JK looks broken into, forced open, mangled, and missing an artifact-shaped object in the middle. The FSC one remains unopened -- not opened by the Alpha squad, because there is no mention of it in the Recon Modules -- and contains a second Artifact.

Now, what are the Artifacts for? Razwog said his was a power source, and the Spiral Order was using it to help power the Lab if I recall correctly. Now, personally I don't believe something kept in that kind of place, that looks like it does, with all the moving parts, is simply a power source. Yes, it can be used as one, as in it emits some form of energy/Energy that can be harnessed, but I think it has another purpose. The Swarm probably knows, which is why Herex was trying to get it, first from RJP through Razwog and then from TSO personally when everything went pear-shaped. And since the Swarm wants it enough to control people like Herex to get it, it has to be powerful or at least very useful. Maybe a key of some sort, but I really have no idea.

The papaya has a theory

As to what the Artifacts are for, I believe that they have something to do with controlling the different "worlds" within Cradle. In one of the Alpha Squad Recon Modules, they mention that the different depths/worlds seem to have been harnessed. Maybe the Swarm are trying to use it to get better control of Cradle?

Another possibility is that the Artifacts have something to do with the core due to the energy they generate, but this is just pure guesswork and has no basis >.<
