with my party. I had shiver and stagger storm equipped (my only two weapons; I was heating), so I ask: "Want me to spam shiver or switch between stagger and shiver?" and one guy with blitz in hand says: "Stagger only please."

So we start the battle, and I faithfully spam my staggerstorm, while the others spam blitz. The fight doesn't go smoothly and a spark or two was used, but we eventually win.

After the battle I say: "That could've gone a lot better if I had used shiver. Why didn't you want me to use shiver?" and the guy replies, with his blitz in hand: "I don't like shiver. Too many people use it to kill vana. It makes things too easy."

Am I the only one who finds something wrong with this statement?

Well, they spent the sparks and they didn't regret it, so they essentially loose nothing. If it is a challenge, then a challenge is what they got.

What's the point of freezing if any weapon contact would unfreeze it (useless to spam shiv with a lot of blitz dps)

It keeps him from turning so people can stay away from his front while they charge their blitzes. Especially helpful if they don't have ctr or not everyone has one.

If I had a Staggar I'd do that same.

In my book, making a tough fight easier is great, making it so laughably easy that the gods must descend upon your luck to curse it but you still live is painful. Once I get my own Staggar Storm, I am going to be bringing that with me everywhere I go. People have told me the thing is useless, but that only makes me want it more.

Congratulations to you and your squad! You found challenging content in something people do every day for 10 hours!

It is so easy to come up with bright ideas after everything is said and done.

Personally, I found many things wrong with the story, not just in what Blitz guy said. Mainly;

What happened to your own judgement? If the Blitz guy told you he was going to give you a darkfang shield if you mail him money, would you do it? Or did you owe him something because you came into a party bringing mist bombs as your only weapons?
Were you two the only members of said party? If you had more people, did they say anything about your poor performance? If it was only you and Blitz dude, wouldn't it have been better to be more careful?
What was the moral of this story? That its better to blame someone else when you end up using sparks in a place like FSC? Or is it a warning about Blitz Needle-toting simpletons?

Now I'm thinking of writing this in wordpress.w

I prefer just kiting Vana. Since I have roflstomp OP gear (CTR Max/DI Ultra/ASI Ultra level 10 Blitz), I can often grab Vana's aggro and just kite him. By putting him in attack animations, I can safely fire shots faster than when he's frozen or stunned.
