What exactly is the gunner update going to bring?

New weapons and armor as well as reworked damage. (poor Zeddy is gonna have to rework everything)

What does this mean for the game?

More choices.

Will this affect the current Chaos Cloak/Brandish/SSB metagame?

Aside from new pulsar/blaster choices not much. (maybe antiguas)

Will anything become useless?

Your PVP catalyzers won't deal damage anymore, just tag recons (dear god we have so many recons that this is perfectly reasonable and we need something else that makes their cloak even more useless) #sarcasm

In all honesty the update will bring new items to the game, how they fit in is determined by the current metagame. The new CTR boosting armor will end up being a good first gunner set for FSC but much like other armors it will most likely be abandoned during the endgame for something like Chaos Cloak (not to hate on CC). New Damage types on fast guns means they will fit into the current metagame by giving more ranged choices to pair with Brandishes. Slow guns (like usual) will most likely get ignored. The new pulsars may get ignored just because shock status is "the best status in the game", they may find some use in PVP where most people have UV rolled to buff their shock resist but other than that I won't expect much. New damage types (piercing) on the more mobile guns will mean we have better choices when it comes to combating certain enemies.

While the gunner update will diversify everyone's choices and loadout I don't see it as revolutionary as some tout it to be.
Of course I will be waiting for the day it comes out but I just don't expect too much to change.

I don't think that we are supposed to talk about it on forums. If you are interested then you can check out the modles in SpiralSpy or the hidden in-game files in the game itself.

The new pulsars may get ignored just because shock status is "the best status in the game"

I posted no names, pictures,

I posted no names, pictures, models, stats, etc of anything in the update. Everything in this post is what I have heard by ear (either from ingame players or other forumers.

Examples:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/103594
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/103964
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/103402
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/102368

More examples of leaks exist and some are far worse. (My first intro to the gunner update outlined stats, boosts, images, names, etc)

@ Thunder

Honestly how many people do you see running around with magnus lines or catalyzers?
If you had a choice between VT or AOA which would you choose?

H8ers have to eat too! @.@

My process to how I viewed this post:

"Oh boy, oh boy, another opinion." (see there's loads of excitement)

Sees questions
Ignores rest since it seems irrelevant to whatever you're trying to say.
Decides to answer the questions. (Since those seem the the only relevant thing)

  • What exactly is the gunner update going to bring?
  • Nothing. (You asked for honesty) There will only be something of any true value if there's something *more* that comes along with it, which I hope there is, otherwise, it's just a minor ravish update. Sorry, I'm not too interested in these new guns. Why? Well, they will be in the game permanently, so we could get them whenever we want. (Ouch~~ Such the downer Panda sheesh!)

TL;DR : If it's *just* guns and new amour, then that's not *that* great. Having a small event along with the great awaited update would be pretty awesome, and I guess needed as well.

  • What does this mean for the game?
  • More guns to get excited over for a few weeks, and then back to the caves!

  • Will anything become useless?
  • No, because nothing is "useless".

    @FishyPanda
I kinda doubt the the Gunner Update will just have new guns and armors, and that's it. I mean the Battle Sprite update wasn't just battle sprites was it? That update changed ALOT about SK, so I wouldn't be surprised if the long awaited gunner update would do something similar if not the same.

I can't imagine OOO has been spending all this time just on guns and armor for this update, surely there is something else. . right?

Now, if it is just guns, then yes I it will probably be a bit disappointing to alot of players. Not to mention there probably won't be that much of a big surge of player activity since this is a permanent update and you can get the guns whenever you want. And assuming OOO knows this, I'm sure something else will be included to keep the interest of both old and new players, such as a new boss.

I just want a freakin fast shooting 5* piercing gun, and I'll be happy :P

Uh oh. I doubt you'd like to contest that, right? Fire and Freeze CAN be dangerous to anyone not wearing Vog Cub/Skolver/BKC+Snarby/Snarby. I expect to see a storm of all three pulsar lines, wait, no, all FOUR of them! They buffed the speed and reduced it's damage by a small margin.
