Let's give bombers more weapons, something new that still fits in the game.
Instead of bombing the enemies, why not bomb your friends and give them boosts?
TL;DR
Bombers have a very limited play style: Haze bombs, Vortex bombs, DBB, or DR. That's all anyone uses.
(Nobody uses shard bombs because of the tink tink tink DPS issue.)
- Let's turn bombing on its head. Instead of bombing enemies, why not have haze bombs that offer buffs?
- Attack Bomb: Haze-type bomb, players who wander into the area of effect get a 3second (5sec?) attack bonus, just like the drop item.
- Defense Bomb: Haze-type bomb, players who wander into the area of effect get a 3second (5sec?) defense bonus, just like the drop item.
- Status Barrier Bomb: Haze-type bomb, players who wander into the area of effect get a 5second (8sec?) 3-ball spinning barrier just like the barrier drop items that nobody ever uses. You could have one of these bombs for each flavor of barrier item (poison, fire, freeze)
- Status Immunity Bomb: Haze-type bomb, players who wander into the area of effect get a 8second (12sec?) immunity to all status effects that an enemy or environment may cause. Not to the damage, just to the status.
- Speed Bomb: Haze-type bomb, players who wander into the area of effect get a 8second (12sec?) speed boost, just like the drop item.
- Off topic bomb: the Fire Extinguisher: Haze-type bomb, oilers who wander into the area of effect get doused, like they do for Shiver. The oiler trails that catch fire get doused. The flamethrower puppy fire stops at the edge of the effect area. Note: this would not extinguish fire tiles that require water.
- Defense Bomb: Haze-type bomb, players who wander into the area of effect get a 3second (5sec?) defense bonus, just like the drop item.
- Is that too much? Here are some possible balance tweaks:
- The bomber does not get the bonus, just teammates.
- The area of effect can be smaller than current haze bombs (not too small--that will make it useless. I'm thinking the 5* version = area of our 4* current haze bombs).

I'm imagining the bomber laying down support bombs, having party members run in for the bonus and back out as they attack enemies. It's a completley new idea, not too hard to program, and uses existing game bonuses.

what you are saying is that players usually use the 60% of the bombs at their disposal. and it's true, but compared to swords (most used are brandishes and sealed sword lines) and guns (most used are polaris, valiance and antigua line) players see much less sword and guns variety than bombs. I have yet to see someone who brings a catalyzer into battle with a random team but me. cause I can see myself you know.

total sword types: 9 used: 2
total gun types: 8(+mixmaster) used: 2+ 1/2 (polaris, not supernova) + 1/3 (blitz, not plague or pepperbox) (+mixmaster)
total bomb types: 6 used: 4 + 1/4 (nitrome, but not everything else)
also, solo bombers would not be affected or would have too much advantage, according to your balacing tweaks.
