I do not forum often, and so, I apologize for any spelling, grammar, or other problems now.
I have left spiral knights for a long time, and recently come back, to realize what I had feared: inflation. Because games have unlimited amounts of money (in this case crowns), players can farm and farm all day until they had mounds of it, and when everyone has mounds of it, it losses value. For some this is good, for some, this is annoying. I find it annoying because, when I came back, it meant I had to grind a ton to not be poor, and actually afford anything on the auction house, as while the crown's value may have gone down, the drop rate has not gone up. I find that this can make it hard for new players, as, stated before, crown drop rates have not come up to match for the drop in value. To grind for all the crowns to actually be able to afford anything on the player market, I had venture over and over in the clockworks, thankfully the elevators no longer required energy. Then, it hit me; players are able to grind all these crowns because the unlimited adventures in the clockworks! By having a limit on how far a player can go, you limit how much crowns he can grind, thus adding value to the crown! It would of course take a while for people to use all their crowns before value comes back, but, as soon as everyone realizes that crowns aren't coming in by the barrel load anymore, the value should come up. Another can argue that you could just increase crown drop rate, but, that would just decrease the crowns value even more, as then there would be even more crowns then before. So, in conclusion, if you put in the energy doors, then you could limit the amount of crowns a player can get (without buying actual energy), then the value of the crown should go up and the inflation problem so many RPGs have could be stopped, or at least, reduced. The only problem I can see is that the energy system from so long ago would have to be reinstalled, where you get 100 energy every 24 hours (maybe 150, please?). On another hand, sales in energy would increase, so that people can keep exploring the clockworks. Thank for your time.
Energy elevators stop inflation.

The thing you're missing is why it mattered to begin with. Under the old system, you needed to make money and trade it for energy for two major reasons- to continue playing the game as much as you liked, and to craft gear. Both of these two reasons have been removed, meaning that you are no longer tied to your ability to purchase energy off of others for anything other than occasional luxury purchases and of course Punch's variant shop, as well as additional battle sprites.
Crowns on the other hand are worth much more, as they can be used to generate unique variants, buy recipes and costumes off of the auction house, furnishings for the guild hall, you know.
the value of ce right now is high because flash sales, normally it's around 7k, which isn't that much, and it's the same as before the sprite update. inflation didn't got up at all, it's tecnically OOO's fault.
