I was thinking that maybe you guys could add a monthly subscription option? Maybe around $15? My idea is that for those who subscribe monthly, you could grant them unlimited mist energy. Or more percisely, make it so that their mist energy doesnt decrease and is always at 100. This would let subscribers do dungeon runs as often as they want while still allowing you to make money through the sale of Crystal Energy. Subscribers would still need CE for crafting purposes. This also might help control the crazy inflation going on in the in-game energy market. This idea really shines when you couple it with the possibility of higher tiers in the future as well. What do you guys think? Good idea?
A monthly subscription option.
I'm not for a sub at all but
@Wolfein No, ce prices skyrocketing are not a good thing. -.-
My idea was to make monthly subscription optional. You dont have to subscribe and you can easily get to the higer tiers without doing so. Play style would remain the same for non-subscribers. You could still buy energy with crowns or $$. I dont mean you would have to subcribe to be able to play the higher tiers. I just meant that subscribers would benefit from it because they would be able to collect mats and crowns more easily for crafting the higher end items because they wouldn't have to worry about the engergy requirements for running a dungeon. They could do it as often as they want.
The market is effed up enough as it is, adding this into the mix would really screw it in the butt. NO!
Hey NickPickle05, I like the optional idea of upgrading the free account to subscription account. I think that paying players like me need a little more Benefits. Unlimited Mist Energy would be a nice benefit for subscribed players along with crafting discounts. So I'm all for it. Good Idea man!! However, the only bad effect from a subscription account is, if Mist energy was unlimited, subscribed players would pretty much control the market, because we would grind dungeons and collect massive amounts of Materials and Crowns, and selling at prices too much for non-paying players to afford. Then again, this may force them to upgrade their accounts. Anyway, still a good idea. Also, If they were to make this happen, OOO rings would problaby increase the price of low star gear... pissing off non-paying player yet again.
I hadn't thought about that SKJAY81. I wouldn't want to have the subscribers dominate the market and ruin it for everyone else. Perhaps 3 rings could impliment some changes to prevent that from happening. Maybe add a material vendor or something. Or they could put subscribers on a different server. Then they wouldn't have to worry too much about how monthly subscribers would affect the market. I would think that the added income from monthly subscribers would be enough to pay for the cost of running another server. Plus it would give the development team more money for creating new content. This game has so much potential and I feel like a few tweaks could really make this game shine.
I'm with you NickPickle05, this game has much potential. However, in the early stage of any new MMO game it is very sensitive and a bad decision like a rushed update or content can destroy the game. Eventually, OOO rings will give us what we need; it’s just a matter of time and being Patient. I believe there will be some type of optional subscription plan one day; it’s just not in the best interest of the game right now. And, we both know, OOO rings have bigger fish to fry.
I hope you're right SKJAY81. I'm impatient and would like to see something like that soon. I dont like how I have to pace myself when playing. It would be nice to be able to do dungeons as many times as I wanted without worrying about using energy too fast. While I dont mind paying, I dont want to be shelling out 20 bucks every 2 weeks.
I like the idea, as I've said before in other threads. Instead of calling it "unlimited mist energy" as the OP did, call it an "elevator pass." For $10-15 per month, a pass holder can ride as many elevators as he wants free of charge. Mist energy and crystal energy would exist for him as usual and could be used for crafting and revives.
I would be down to pay for this game, but not that this $15 a month you guys are talking about, you're insane. This game is not, by any means, worth that much. It's far too easy to complete and far too boring. Perhaps as they expand the content and release better, more well thought out dungeons or better gear it could be worth it. For now, I would be willing to only pay $5 a month. Actually, scratch all of that, leave this game free unless they decide to actually make it fun again.
Edit for additional comments:
I do have a right to complain about this game being boring because I've put real money into it and I have spent more than enough time playing. So, before hating on my comments please be assured that my bitterness is not without good reason.
When Spiral Knights becomes another MMO that gives paying players control of everything I'm leaving. I have paid to play this game and I will continue too.
One massive problem is this idea creates a wall. Remember when you started as a new player and you had 100 crowns to your name? Now imagine how much easier it's going to be to get CE when nobody needs it because they're on a monthly plan? You'll then have a load of extremely powerful free players who are loaded with cheap CE and a load of extremely powerful premium players who are loaded with unlimited Mist Energy. What happens then?
Well the premium players go "wtf? why am i paying if he's not?" and stops paying. The free player goes "eh. he's off his plan. let's charge 8,000 for CE".
I like this elevator pass idea. It might even be better than my unlimited mist energy idea because it wont affect crafting and reviving. I understand that 15 dollars might be a bit much at this point of the game. However if they add more content such as more bosses, weapons, higher tiers, maybe even new areas besides Haven then it would be worth it.
I see how that could create a problem Wolfein. I think Icee's idae of an elevator pass is better than my unlimited mist energy idea. Of course the scenario you described could be avoided if subscribers were put on their own server.
As an extention to the elevator pass idea, if they don't want to make it a monthly subscription, perhaps they could simply make an option to purchase a pass with real money and have it last for 30 days like a weapon slot upgrade.
Spiral Knights is essentially a free game, it's what draws so many people to it, the fact that both free players and paying players get the same game. The CE purchases are really nothing more than a "boost". The CE inflation is good for Three Rings as it forces more players to either pay more crowns or buy CE with real money, if you can't afford it, play on mist. Saying "you have to subscribe monthly in order to go to even higher tiers" basically makes this Runescape, which is something everybody wants to heavily avoid.
