title.

before starting a discussion on "how should OOO work on this problem" how about a "how did OOO try to solve the problem and what can OOO do to improve that".

anything that vendors sell, including pills and vitapods. they don't do a great job at doing that, and that probably because nobody will ever buy a +12 vita at big price. would be great if they sold +3/+6 vitas a moderate prices. more buyers=better.

guild hall prices for everything. works for endgame players, which is very good.

the cr/ce conversion mechanic would be great if it wasn't player controlled, because shortage on one side or the other cause huge imbalances that don't fix themselves like they should, or better it takes a lot more time than you would expect. but then there's the problem of "how much is 100ce really worth" which is a bit of a pain to answer.

that's pretty much it. what do you think?

EC?

I assume "EC" means error correction? You're complaining about the protocols used to ensure communicational robustness?

Throw us a bone here.

ECH!

I think Thunder just forgot an H at the end and actually meant to say ECH.

Seriously, though, OOO doesn't fix bugs that have been around for, quite literally, years. What makes you think they'll fix the game's economy when they can profit by just chugging reskins of gear or accessories onto the gullible ones that'll spend hundreds of monies to get those super essential, 1% chance items that the pretty and shiny Prize Boxes have in them?

No, I didn't forget the Flash Sales, by the way.

Sorry, the way OOO wrings money out of the players just makes me really grumpy and phlegmy.

ECH?

I don't know what ECH means either. And I don't want to view a YouTube video just to figure it out. Perhaps the original poster could take the 15 seconds necessary to state more clearly what this thread is about.

EC = Extra Credits. Video about balancing game economies or something. I stopped paying attention to Extra Credit videos ever since people started spamming that other video and using it for their arguments for the wrong reasons.

As for ECH... it's just a sorta-coughing sound. If you've ever watched the JonTron Show, chances are you've heard him do it.

aaaand we started ignoring people arguments because we don't want to watch youtube videos since when?
seriously, I can understand doing it for the guys that don't put effort in their threads, but ight now I'm a little frustrated that the only two people that have responded don't even take me seriously after all the bad I've not done in these years in the forum. yes, it's already years, goddamit.

Is inflation now another venting topic? I rather go back to "SK is dying" vent threads. People who think there is inflation, well, comparing 2011 and now sure, comparing last month and now, sure. But relative price range has not changed that much, still between 6k-8kcr/100E, not that bad, considering it has been this way for how many months.

Base conversion rate is 450E/US$, anything less and you experience a deficit, anything more is a surplus. Really that's all to it. As for the crown conversion rate, the reason why we don't have inflation driven by countless slaughtering of vanadook, is because it's too time consuming (removing mist energy has little impact on the value of crowns). We consume crowns as fast as we earn them, and wow OOO must have been monitoring the amount of crowns in circulation to see that.

Oh noes, people are stockpiling too much energy? Better do a flash sale. Oh noes people are demanding more energy (driving up the price), better do some promos. And the cycle repeats.

I would be really surprized if SK is some sort of stock market instead, and that the false value placed upon the need to upkeep guilds and buy costumes have turned SK into an almost free local market, and a completely free market on Steam as well.

Thunder-The-Bright, I wasn't ignoring your post. If I did that I wouldn't have bothered to actually put a more serious reply in my first post. Yes, it has dumb images and videos, but I still mean what I said: if OOO doesn't seem to worried about fixing bugs that have been around for years, why in the fluffy darn would they bother fixing the game's "economy"? And as a little note: I did see the video "properly", if you want to call it that, because it was the first time I saw it :P

I agree with what Zaffy-Laffy said, though. The energy price is constant enough that OOO doesn't even need to worry too much about it. If people are hoarding too much energy OOO just slaps some new costumes/reskins/accessories/Flash Sales into the game and ta-da, there's your crown/energy sink.

Speaking of crown sinks, I think that OOO adding more variety and lower prices to the Vitas we can buy from the vendors at Moorcroft and Emberlight won't make them any more useful. One thing is buying something that you can keep forever and use when you want, another is buying the same thing again and again and again because said thing vanishes when you die during or reach the end of your run.

problem with inflation in the game is that OOO "solves" it directly with a promo or an event instead of putting a real hamper to it.

Thunder-The-Bright, you have been a good forumer. You deserve respect. But no, I don't view any video unless I have some strong reason to view it.

Crowns enter the market through players spending their time (playing the game). Energy enters the market through players spending real money. It seems reasonable to have players set the conversion rate between the two.

Since April 2011, energy prices have fluctuated between 5,000 and 9,500. That's a factor of two. I'm not an expert on currency trading, but it doesn't seem like an outrageous range to me.

(Am I on the right track in figuring out what this thread is about?)

I honestly want to have a discussion with those dudes about their thoughts on SK's economy and past decisions. James especially would be great to have a dialogue with about some of the design choices, and things that could be implemented to change things for the better.

(Btw, the episode that aired three weeks ago - anybody recognize that guest artist? ;) )

I thought of Spiral Knights a lot when I watched this week's. They focused more on WoW and the like but there's a lot that could be learned. However, I don't feel like selling +3 or +6 vitapods would really do that well... personally, I'd just skip it. At tier 3 levels of play, those few pips aren't worth going out of your way to purchase, even if they're cheap. I don't mind spending 3k on the +12, but I just don't feel like taking the extra steps to buy one. :U

We already do the things in the video, which I thought was a bit... mediocre, especially for extra credits.

UVs = aftergame leveling
Auction House = huge crown sink via 10% fees
Guild hall upkeep = huge crown sink for guilds

after getting to know that whiskers come bound, I decided to actually stop caring. this game is getting nowhere. still a good, interesting game, with a great community, but I don't really espect much from it anymore.
that being said, I'll see how this thread goes before graveyarding it. I don't have the strength or the effort to argue anymore, and from how the responses are coming this thread will sink down pretty soon.
