Well I have not been play spiral knights for a very long time now, and back when I left I remembered that a Gunner Update was underway. I just visited the forums and wiki today but it seems that the update has not been put in place yet(?), and I was wondering if it was delayed or abandoned, can't seem to find clear information about it.
Quick Gunner Update question
It was released as an event that you JUST missed.
Inb4 you ask more useless questions.
No one knows, not the Devs, not the GMs, not anyone.
Worst case scenario it gets released as a "gunner update prize box" with contents as follows:
40% chance: 2* and 3* recipes for new guns
30% chance: 4* new gun recipes
20% chance: new 5* recipes
10% chance: "Updated Mechanics Pass" that allows your knight to actually use the mechanics changed in the gunner update that we previewed on the test server.
Also, it's worth mentioning that two new guns with very new mechanics (not just reskins or tweaks) have been released recently:
* Tortofists (four versions, one for each damage type)
* Overcharged Mixmaster (unfortunately available only from a prize box)
So, while this is not the anticipated gunner update, and we don't know when that will happen, there is some new content for gunners trickling out.
Gunner update was canceled.
If it wasn't canceled, it would clearly be out by now.
Some people will say its on the works and probably they are working on something else so we dont going to get stuff like they did with Sprite update (like we only got the sprites, and 4 - 5 new missions which was for low ranks and the sprites, and changes to the game system like myst energy removal and orbs for crafting and crystal fire for heat, but in the end besides that nothing new, just "kill the same stuff with your new friends) so in order to avoid "that scenario" many believes that OOO is working on a lot of stuff in other words: Gunner update + tons of levels (as well weapon / gear balance)
Some people will say with Nick's leaving the gunner update was cancelled due OOO' tantrum much like crapcom did with megaman after Keiji Inafune leaves the company and thats why "get only promo after promo" in order to cash grab everything before they plug out the server (because the RNG used on your lottery box because OOO dont call them prize boxes, they call it "your lottery ticket to see if you get what you want but most likely you wouldnt")
Some people will say that after a long programing and troubles with the gunner update and OOO realized that was going to be much trouble to fix, so they ditched away the update and we probably we going to get our "Update" in bits per bits with new events rewards or "prize box rewards" (i like to call them lottery box) so pretty much they just stopped on the update.
i honestly just going to wait and see because nobody know what its the truth. going to play the game, to see how "funny" are those "new events ( i mean YAY we gotta find 24 books to get the 4 kats raiments!! Yeah thanks OOO!) because pretty much i honestly dont care if the gunner update comes or not, i wanted new levels soooo long but i just lost interest after i take a look at how the "New" events are handled. so gunner update comes or not i just will keep playing because yeah i feel sad about the state of the game, but still the game i love due being an unique MMo that dont make you click where you want to go, or isnt text based and actually you have full control over your character, and just for that just will come check stuff and leave after doing 1 or 2 stuff in the game. im not even interested on fund this game with some purchase like i did before they change to the "Lottery prize box system"
the only thing we can do at this point it just wait and see how the game develop.
I don't trust the GMs, and honestly do think that it's cancelled lol. This would technically be speculation anyway... No, we don't know that the update is cancelled, but it sure feels like it is and if it isn't, it will likely have a hard time meeting expectations, to the point of revealing much larger issue with development.
No?
I don't think that the gunner update is cancelled, whether it meets my expectations or not shall be seen when it gets released, so on that i just won't comment.
However, considering the ammount of time they are taking to deliver this update kind of kills my hopes of ever seeing balance spreading to swords, bombs and armors, i mean if they had this much trouble bringing some new guns and throwing some balance into them, and having in mind that people have been complaining every time they delay the update... yah... Rest in pieces balance, complained to death.
unless(and this is where the utopic fantasy that noone will believe begins) they thought that they couldn't balance gunner items only because all the rest of the stuff is also broken, and then they would have to scratch everything again when, if ever at all, they bring balance to armors and all the other stuff. so they decided to change everything in a single big update that would have everything in mind instead of separated by parts.
on short: you can't balance an item for a system that is broken.
after writing this ^ i also realized that probably other players are having similar ideas and this kind of proves at least one thing of that whole "canceled update" theory... everyone probably has really high hopes for this update.
even me, a salty, pessimistic and hateful one who has been seeking for balance for about 2 years ago and simply gave up due to nothing even being adressed at for so long, has a little bit of hope for this update, so what is left for those who always held OOO high and are all optimistic about it?
oh the horrors OH THE HORRORS!!
I'm concerned that so many players are hanging their hopes on this now-legendary update. It can't possibly live up to expectations. Also, I'm concerned about the difficulty of managing large changes to the game. Small changes seem easier to implement. So my recommendation to Three Rings (not that they should really pay attention to some ignorant player) is:
Announce that the big gunner update is canceled, but that all of the guns and armor will be released slowly. At the same time, release a few guns/armors, to show that you're serious. Then release a few more a couple of months later, etc.
he told OOO not to be so shut-in about their development of the game.
you guys have to understand, they closed all the windows, nailed them shut and locked the door... night time has come, and the creatures of the darkness have come out of the shadows to spook them.
it is the time of the Darkcubs, the time of your Fehzors and your Aviris and your Mystrians, we have all left our caves to spook you all!!
*hops into a skull faced train* LETS SPOOK THEM ALLL!! mwahahahahahaahahahaaahaHAhahaHAHahahaha!!
what aviri didn't know, is that the train was heading to the asylum, where he belongs, and then no one ever heard from him again
It is important to understand what was demoed on the test server was not some major gear update with many new items to experiment with, rather it was the opposite.
Classic weapons tend to be restricted in damage type and status, that is to say you can't just pick any weapon you like and expect it to be available in all possible combinations of damage and/or status. Adding a pile of re-purposed weapons to the line up opens up a bit more choice on what you want your weapon to do and how it will do it - probably the best current examples of broad spectrum weapons are Brandishes and Shard bombs.
Classic helms and armors tend to have very focused offensive benefits to the point that what particular buffs players get is decided for them if they still plan on legitimately using it for defense. Excellent examples are Skolver vs. Vog, if you still want to match your defense to the situation, then you forfeit the choice of sword bonus. You can make up the missing bonuses with trinkets, the Battle Sprite perk and careful planning of sword UV's, but this is the reaction to the armors narrow feature set - if you do none of that planning then you miss out on having well rounded offensive stats for your class.
The new armor sets are expected to have modest but broad class specific bonuses so that a beginner should easily achieve a modest triple medium weapon bonus for their class and a triple very high for 5* players when combined with a couple of trinkets that require little or no planning ahead of time.
The Gunner update is about bringing gear away from being an incomplete collection of puzzle pieces for you to assemble as best you can, to offering a comprehensive selection of reference gear to fit the needs of the situation.
Still, seeing that it has taken so long to show itself, the only way they could impress after such a long wait is to also roll in a Sword and Bomb update in the same package.
My opinion generally is the same as posted here:
http://spiral.onyxbits.de/archives/speculations/the-gunner-update-estima...
Gunner update has been scratched, you're already using what was supposed to be in the update - mixmaster being just one of the things, another cool thing is tortodrone stuff.
We both may be wrong, though, and OOO/S.E.G.A. aka Sonic for 20+ years have something spectacular ready for us... which isn't a re-colored rose regalia costume piece.
Klipik, that post is a coverup. We obviously know the truth.
The sad thing is that new gear isn't what most of us want. What we want is new playable content.
I agree with Sweet-Hope (that name sums up so many things) so gunner update comes or not i just will keep playing because yeah i feel sad about the state of the game, but still the game i love due being an unique MMo that dont make you click where you want to go, or isnt text based
There's no other game out there nearly as good. Plus I love the social aspect of the game, and I enjoy the game play with the very powerful gear I already own.
I don't need or want new weapons or armor, so I really don't care about the gunner update.
Also, being teased with things that are basically impossible to get like whiskers for crafting or vial bandoliers does not add to the enjoyment of the game but does detract from it a bit.
New bosses and kinds of levels would be great, though. Also, it'd be nice to have new achievements and rewards and something to do with prestige points, and on and on . . .
What the...why bring me into this,
"and this is where the utopic fantasy that noone will believe begins"
That's quite insulting and presumptuous for someone who doesn't know me.
But now that you drug me into this, I feel that the community has ruined the update. And with the same swing severed all communications with OOO/Sega.
The trolling forum community desecrated the forum, running over anyone and everyone, to get what they wanted. One of those things was for OOO to be more open about what they were doing and planning. They acted as if they were entitled to this and OOO owed it to them. They were internal business things of OOO that users weren't privy to. OOO caved and tried to make them happy and did so. In this they mentioned the gunner update. They stated they are working on it. Would try to have it done by...
Well, the community took that ball and ran right over OOO. They attacked and kicked. They wanted to burn them at the stake. "You can't make deadlines."
Suddenly what was being worked on was now set in stone with a DEADLINE. The trolls hated and attacked OOO and their good customers because OOO did not follow out with the business plan and deadlines set forth by the forum trolls. (If you disagree, please post in this thread, anything where anyone in OOO stated the gunner update would be out on 'and the date'.)
They could have found problems anywhere along the line; coding, balance, look, glitches, whatever. The users didn't care. They had their deadline they told their employees to meet. (The constant forum trolling on sk and elsewhere of they told us it would be out on, they can't make and keep to their own deadlines.)
To keep from being banned by for posting how I think Sega people, their friends and guilies played into this, I'll move on.
I don't think its ever coming out. I can only base this on what I would do but I would just ignore it until it goes away. I won't waste the work done and put it out it bits and pieces, later saying it's already been released. But I certainly never would do the update for all the, "after all this time you couldn't do it right, it wasn't better, you would mess up the coding when bringing it on line." Pff! Ya right.
USER KILLED UPDATE
so basically you're saying that OOO just got trolled and couldn't handle the heat?
Fehzor, give them time, its not like they can make an update in 5 seconds. Also, how do you not trust the GMs?
Same as the stun bug update.
We've been sitting, waiting patiently and one day they'll just release it casually as a footnote in one of the patch notes.
"Oh, didn't we tell you? Yeah, updates for guns, specifics here, whatever"
And boom, it'll be bang on and that'll be perfect. But no one will care by that point because by then we'll all be so hooked on waiting for the forever-long "sprites fight instead of you" updated that we'd have been waiting on for 11 months.
The way the forum rules are handled as well as the way the GMs told us that there were T3 poison barriers and item drops in the game at a time when there were neither makes me doubt them as a credible source. They just aren't... becoming, would be the way to put it. They don't even spell check their responses when they send them out.
Speaking about that, i remember when someone asked in spanish forums about where to get radiant (this when radiants barely dropped and before OOO made an update where radiants started to drop in deph 25) the OP in that thread posted the "most know" places to drop radiant in that time (depth 27-28 and doing shadow lairs) and then Clotho come and said
"Radiants already drop you guys arent looking in the right places" and we asked Clotho where to find radiants besides those places that OP and many forumers posted. and there wasnt a response back. just "Keep looking".
how was that? the guy already posted were to get radiants and that wasnt enough, others poster the same thing and made the same argument that people did before in english forums when people started to worry about that matter. so yeah pretty much you cant believe on whatever GM posts
I find it much more reliable to say that gunner update was canceled, sadly .-.
Funny how the title says "quick" yet this thread is still going.
given the context and how much impact the words "Gunner update" can have on the community it was practically impossible for this to go down in any way that you could consider "quick".
hahahahahahah
And players wonder why OOO stopped communicating with the community.
[sarcasm]It's not like the community is or ever has attacked OOO. No evidence of that in this thread.[/sarcasm]
Respect goes both ways.
Time to patiently wait for me to be called names after making this post. [Don't expect me to read/post again in this thread because I'm not interested in reading it.]
On topic now...
The last announcement for the gunner update is found here.
A gathering of some active forumers to discuss a topic that was briefly mentioned by a random new forumer. Sounds legit. Well I said this but I guess a long thread isn't worth visiting, so I'll say it again.
"OOO failed to see and fulfill the need for timely updates on an MMOG. The lack of deadlines already show the lack of planning and goal setting, and the lack of a large dedicated team to the development of this game also speaks for itself. Unless these conditions are met, I don't think we can see Spiral Knights from becoming a good game within its lifespan."
It isn't because of the users' murderous hunger for more gameplay, it was really how OOO's incompetence that led to the dying state of SK itself, and the lack of transparency just worsens it. What exactly does an MMOG needs? It needs good, timely updates, the latter seems to be missing as of late. Some business tactics are also pretty shady as well, so this all leads to the lack of a large userbase.
pfft, you can keep blaming the community raven, but its OOO's fault for shutting up and letting the users come up with whatever crazy sh** they can think of(yeah yeah, Im not excluding myself either), and also the fact that they decided to stop communicatig because they were getting some negative responses doesn't make sense to me.
ofc they will get "attacked", that happens with other games aswell and i've never seen companies making such big deal about it. but they decided to shut up, wich has led to players drawing their own conclusions for 11 months about what was happening, and apparently this is what you get after that.
If I wanted I could come up with some kind of "yeah nick announced big plans for the future and then they screwed up and were like oh my we can't release any of these things we announced... welp, better get out our promos real fast before we leave and then call it quits."
Can't blame the playerbase for the decisions that OOO takes, players may have a certain influence over that but we're not the ones to blame for when a course of action gets taken.
I see three possible variants about the gunner update:
- the devs are working on a huge update, one of the largest we ever saw in SK, far beyond being limited to gunner update only,
- they are busy with a new project, not related to SK,
- they are the most lazy and deceitful people the world has ever known.
I tend to believe in the first variant. The Mixmaster was probably released to showcase some new mechanics and convince the community of that real progress is being made on the gunner update. It's obviously some new branch of Autogun line.
official info says that it will be released "when it's ready".
fact is, it's been in development for 11 months.
