Well the problem with advertising Spiral Knights is that it isn't something that people are going to buy into due to the constant cash grabs, lack of new content, performance issues, lack of communication from the developers and otherwise general scumminess. You can get the word out there, but people aren't going to take to it. Yes, some people will take to it. There will always be some. But that proportion is likely smaller than is considered worth it, so an advertising campaign hasn't been launched.

I'd have to disagree you, Fehzor.

Lack of new content along with lack of communication are more so concerns of end game players. A new casual player shouldn't hit end game for quite a while, assuming they aren't carried. Lack of communication isn't something a new player will notice, unless they come to the forums.

Performance issues are a debatable problem; while some of the problems are on OOO's side, it also depends where the players live in relation to the servers, their computer specs, their ISP, and what time they are playing. I don't experience many performance issues with SK, you only hear about the players who do. Although, I don't play LD, so that could be why I don't see or hear about performance issues.

I'm under the impression general scumminess is avoidable if you don't go on the forums or play LD. It's debatable whether or not these are something new players will experience.

Constant cash grabs are a reality of many mmo's and most mobile games now-a-days. A new player won't be able to compare the current state of SK monetization to how this used to be. They also won't have the rose colored goggles of nostalgia.

I think Sega should have started advertising SK again when elevator fees were removed. I started playing SK because I saw an ad on Facebook shortly after launch, I quit playing because of elevator fees. Most people I know who tried SK stopped because of those fees and because they're casuals who thought the game was too hard. I think SK's new player experience is smoother now than it was before, and as such it should be and should have been advertised. Despite everything there is to complain about, I think there is a higher chance of new player retention.

Edit: Words, how do I spell them?

Therefore we get exactly our market share of the people willing to play crummy MMOs with constant cash grabs and no more than that. Maybe advertising would change that, but advertising also costs a considerable amount of money and isn't something that is done lightly. This is money that can go towards funding entire new sections of the game, other games, or SEGA's company dinner.

Basically- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/94016

Also you just said that performance issues are debatable. You gave me a giggle.

They had an add on a gaming

They had an add on a gaming website I played on a long time. That was the reason I actually started playing this game. Thank you Spiral Knights GMs!
We should all try to help SK by advertising our game on other forums, games e.t.c.
This would make the game stronger...

I don`t think that Spiral Knights advertising; I play on Kongregate and sometimes Kongregate give you suggested games base on what you play and spiral knights just happens to be a popular game on Kongregate so I think thats just kongregate giving you a suggestion and on what to play base on the popularity of it on the site

(i`m not sure though)

@zsoulx
As I said before, I don't remember signing up, and I certainly don't remember giving it permission to track what I do, and I would know if it did.

Also, may I add the fact that I use a mac and the options for mmos on that platform are limited. I would assuse it used the data that I play on Mac to give me the top rated games in each category(that's what it said) for Mac.

Yeah.

Advertising

well, maybe this is part of why they have been running constant money-grab events? It might make a little more sense if they were planning on using some of that money for big advertising

@Fehzor

"Hopful"

I remember I was in my middle school art class a good many years ago and we had to illustrate a crude piece of calligraphy depicting one of the "elements of art" (as if any sort of word can define introspective thinking), and one of the girls in my class chose the word "Hope", which is not an element of art. But I thought it was humerous because of the implications behind "hope" being such a thing. Like slinging paint onto a canvas and hoping someone will buy it, or hoping that it won't rain or hoping that when you speak to a human that it will take a fondness to you. And then she had to start over on her assignment after being told off by the art teacher, and I went to lunch and ate alone just like every other day.

Well, new people won't really have any idea about what the end game is when they start... or past events. I personally enjoyed the game when I first started. Then it slowly turned into me just logging on to run and chat with friends. Now I'm at the point where I'd rather take my chances not getting banned for being American on a Japanese only MMO. So far 1 year there and no problems lol.

Anyway, different people have different taste. Different people have different tolerance levels. I'm sure some old time players are still around playing... while others have moved on. Whether those of us that wanted more levels and bosses are just part of the vocal minority or not I think we have all seen the route the game keeps taking. At that point it is just up to the players to decide if they want to stay or go.
