Wonderful prices we're having. It's time for a discussion. Are we running out of energy buyers and sellers?

It seems to me that the energy market is heavily dependent on mass transactions to ensure the prices remain competitive. The energy market relies on the top 5 lowest selling and highest buying offers to ensure that there is competition to balance out the transaction prices. What if we don't have enough people to do that? Tada.

Looks like we're coming to the end. The economy will not be able to sustain itself and eventually collapse. What do we do?

:/

The end? What are you talking about? Spiral Knights have already signed its own death warrant the day forge was introduced. Argue all you want with me, not any amount of words can justify the rushed and unbalanced changes made to the game.

well you can thank to the "I

well you can thank to the "I LIKE THEY GIVE US MORE BOXES INSTEAD BOX+ENERGY" lovers

reason number one why i dont buy promos anymore, since they dont feel anymore like promo, more like "buy your lottery ticket and see if you get something good that isnt an UV ticket" but well its what people like sadly. and maybe because we dont have more reason to use energy besides getting stuff from supply depot, energy gates, mechaknights and turrets which nobody activate, and E <> CR Transactions?

anyway, nobody will worry about this until the prices start to be 10k cr for a long time and people come to the forums complaining about "BUA BUA ENERGY IS SO EXPENSIVE" its the sad thing, nobody says nothing until someone get affected by that.

HAAAAAaaahahahaha!

as much as I would like to start talking about how much I dislike promo boxes, I'm going to just say this:

What do we do when the economy collapses? YOU PACK UP AND GO HOME GUYS, thats what you do. But im kind of under the impression that this is a deliberate attempt from some evil energy hoarders(you guys know what you are) to rise energy prices, or some kind of boycott, i mean seriously, 80k for 100 energy, the trolling's gone too far.

also energy seems to have scaled down to 8k now, looks like you guyse didn't do so well after all.

I really don't think this is that big of a deal to be honest. It's probably just some guy playing with the market. Sure, the prize boxes might have helped it along, but I don't think they're totally responsible.

I think it's just not as many people playing right now. Maybe burnout from the last kat event.

Or they're all playing Smash Bros.

Oh look, somebody found

Oh look, somebody found another exploit and hammered away at the buy button again..

For all we know there could be an unknown number of users making use of an unknown number of exploits, it's the dumb ones who call attention to themselves when they try to get rich quick.

this happens occasionally

This happens occasionally. In theory it is very unstable. In practice it goes away very quickly. No big deal.

The problem is the energy

The problem is the energy market is hypercompetitive.

As the market competes more and more, prices have to rise to sustain a decent rate of profit. At the same time, energy is being regularly consumed for gameplay.

Instead, prices need to regularly inflate, and a wider margin needs to exist to prevent prices from exploding. The problem is some people don't like profiteering, so they troll the markets to prevent it.

Unfortunately, this strategy backfires horribly over the long-run, so the market explodes.

Basically, think of it like

Basically, think of it like this.

The particular price of energy doesn't matter for energy investors, and investors make the market. Consumers take the market. Investors go long, consumers go short.

For investors, what matters is the margin versus the actual price. If the margin goes down, then prices should go down. For example, if the buying price is 6800 and the selling price is 7200, then you're making more per crown than if the buying price is 7200 and the selling price is 7600.

The problem is the market's been hypercompetitive for way too long. After the 2% fee, the margin has been around 100-150 crowns while the price has hovered around 7300-7400 to buy and 7600-7700 to sell.

The implication is the market's going to get frustrated after a while, and consumers are just going to buy out the energy supply, forcing the price to skyrocket.

This is what happens when you compete like crazy. You expose yourself to explosion risk, so those who wait it out end up making a boatload.

To be clear, I wouldn't be

To be clear, I wouldn't be surprised if after the next week or two, we saw energy prices around 9000-10000 crowns because energy does need to be regularly consumed, but there's limited supply of energy in the market and existing energy holders insist on being hypercompetitive. There is no change of attitude in sight, so that frustration is just going to explode harder.

Random 9-10k spouts are normal, but... I think you missed the main part of the picture.

I still don't understand why anyone ever uses the trade tab.

I'm not convinced Spiral

I'm not convinced Spiral Knights is going to have a reliable energy supply into the future. The general public is becoming bored of buying into nothing.

To be fair, this isn't a condition limited to Spiral Knights, but is something happening among the general F2P market. People are realizing they're getting ripped off from buying dozens upon hundreds of Dollars into games for partial experiences.

Instead, they're paying for entire games, especially old games that can go from 99 cents to 10 bucks. You even see this on Steam when games regularly go on sale as well.

Either Three Rings kicks it up a couple notches in creating new game content, or SK isn't going to have a future.
