This game is kind of like king of the hill, except the "king" is whoever holds the record for biggest number defined.

To keep things under control there are some rules
Your number...
1. Must be a positive integer (FYI, anything with infinite digits is not an integer)
2. Must have a fixed value (eg. "one more than the biggest number anyone else posts" is not allowed*)
3. Must be expressed in fewer than 200 characters (eg. no spamming digits)
4. Cannot use any numbers already assigned a special name by mathematics (eg. "Graham's number" cannot be used when defining your number)

Other than that, you are free to write whatever you want to describe your number.

*You can reference anything you want that doesn't break rule #4, but it has be something that won't change as the game progresses. For example, "the diameter of the earth in millimeters" is okay, since someone can look up the diameter of the earth and calculate that number regardless what is posted afterwards.
Please provide a link to back up your references. Like if you say "number of galaxies in the universe", link to a page with an estimate of that number.

Okay, you can't just reference stuff. You need to give a link that shows someone did the math for it.

Edit:
Googol is apparently a special mathematical term coined by somebody. So it's not allowed. However, Wikipedia does offer "ten duotrigintillion" as a possible replacement.

Ergir is currently in the lead with a number that's approximately 10^(5700)

I can't find everything on Wolfram Alpha ya know.
Ergir's latest post holds the lead, which is estimated to be about 10^(5.7 * 10^415).

@Sonosuke: Read rule #3

@Ergir: The earth is so small compared to the sun it doesn't make a difference if you add it in or not, just saying. Also, when you say "to the power of" I can't tell where the parentheses go, so I just go from left to right.

@Everyone else: Have you noticed I've been writing the records so far with fewer than 20 characters? That means you guys are being horribly inefficient with your resources! I just compressed 100+ characters into 20.

Alright, now the party's actually started, kinda

Zeke's number:
n = 10^97 - 1, so I'm going to assume it's 10^97
The power chain simplifies to n^(n^25) which makes 10^(97 * (10^(97*25)) = 10^(9.7 * 10^2426)

Pi's number:
Assume those 187 9s are actually 10^187 (which is rounding up) making the number 10^(9 * 10^(10^187))

Pi is the new King. Thanks for the catch Pi ;)

Cryptian, you are making life difficult for me! But it's fine since I like puzzles :P

Your expression can be rewritten as: 10^(10^(2+(10^(2+(10^... , which would clearly be bigger than Pi's number if you repeated it the same number of times. Unfortunately you had to chop some off to get it to a respectable character count. Chopping even little bit off the end of a power tower makes many magnitudes of difference. I think Pi's number is still bigger.

If someone can demonstrate otherwise, I will give the crown to you.

Haha, very funny Zeke

The prize is not the hypothetical crown. The "crown" is just another way to say you are the current Big Number King. I haven't really dug through my main account, but I will choose something that is somewhat valuable. Worst case scenario I give you 6k crowns. If I were richer, I would have a bigger prize, but I mostly spend my SK days playing LD instead of making money.

Also you didn't give the R value for your geometric series. Even if you did, it's probably smaller since the value would be (N^N)*R^N, which is much smaller than N^(N^(N^N)) unless you make r something ridiculous.

All right, let me actually fix it. I think. Maybe. I hope it's formatted correctly. You can understand what's on top of the sigma.

N=duotrigintillion
Z=My number

((((((((((((((n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)
Z=Σ ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)
. n=1

200 characters. That period doesn't count, just to space the n=1 out a bit.

GG. Crazee-Pi wins.

@Zeke
The sigma you wrote is for cumulative summation. I will assume it's a cumulative product symbol (which is actually pi) to give you the benefit of doubt. Unfortunately you wrote ((((((((((((((n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n)^n). Notice where the parentheses are. That's just n^(13n)
Same thing with the term inside your summation.
So your number is not even close to the record... Sorry.

@Crazee-Pi

Nothing is scary when you add Tetris music!

They mean you can't just put 9 over and over 9001 times, but you can spam 9 200 times

Hmm. I like this road. It seems to have a... food motif.

Let a = the number of electrons in the known universe.

Now a^a^a = b, b^b^b = c, and so on for each increase in hex value required to receive the character until z. Now let z^z^z^z^z = A, A^A^A^A^A = B, B^B^B^B^B = C, and so on for each increase in hex value until Z.

Let Z^Z^Z^Z^Z^Z^Z=α. Let α^α^α^α^α^α^α^α = β. Let β^β^β^β^β^β^β^β^β = γ. Continue the pattern down the lowercase greek alphabet until you define ω.

Now let ω^ψ^χ^φ^...^β^α^Z^Y^...^C^B^A^z^y^...^c^b^a = Α (Greek Uppercase Alpha). Now let Β (Greek Uppercase Beta) = Α (Greek Uppercase Alpha) ^ Α (Greek Uppercase Alpha) ^ ω^ω^ψ^ψ^χ^χ^φ^φ^...^β^β^α^α^Z^Z^Y^Y^...^C^C^B^B^A^A^z^z^y^y^...^c^c^b^b^a^a. Continue this pattern down the Uppercase Greek Alphabet to define Ω.

Ω is a freaking huge number.

EDIT: Oh, crap. This has so many characters that it breaks the rules, doesn't it?

Why the hate Straight-Line?

The contest is over, but if people want to continue for fun, why not? It's in gremlin chatter so it's not inappropriate.

Straight-Line

I have a strong habit of hating on topics. You are free to reach out of the inernet and unplug my mouse and keyboard if you wish.
