What armor would better suit the Sudaruska?

Hiya. I've been meaning to ask what the best armor combo would be for this sword in particular. I'm using the Sudaruska along with the Barbarous Thorn Shield. So I'm puzzled as to which armor set would be more appealing for my favorite slow as heck mashy sword.

-Vog cub or Skolver? (Not going to even attempt the Snarbolax set.)
-Can I mix it up the armor and have a Vog cap and a Skolver coat? Or will that ruin the set bonus?
-Will adding a Barbarous Thorn Shield stack the sword damage bonus?
-I'm not entirely concerned with speed, I enjoy the charge more.

Thanks for reading!

Abilities

If you're unclear on how damage bonuses add, read the wiki page Abilities.

For general armor advice with swords, you might try the Armor section of my detailed sword guide. It's fine to get Vog Cub, Skolver, or a mix.

For Sudaruska specifically, the obvious choice is Vog Cub, because it speeds up this very slow sword. On the other hand, Chaos is very powerful in general, and Sudaruska's charge attack is definitely worth using, so Chaos is important to consider.

So, in summary, any mix of Vog Cub, Skolver, and Chaos is easy to obtain (compared to Black Kat or Snarbolax) and quite powerful. Pick what you like and go for it.

Sudaruska is a prediction

Sudaruska is a prediction sword, unlike others that can be flung around like crazy this one requires some thought before you swing or charge. That being said I would have to suggest that you turn off AT for this weapon, this way your swings have a better chance to hit more enemies.

Do you like finishing combos fast? then get Vog cub.
Do you take a quick careful swing and rarely finish the combo? Skolver could be for you.
Do you like the charge attack and can aim it? Chaos Cloak could be for you (if you don't mind near max status penalties)

Mixed armors are a bit of a trap, they lower your average defense making only Normal stand out (which rarely shows up in T3), it also means that you aren't super resistant to status.

The Barbarous thorn shield will increase sword damage by +2. The Max is +6 so even if you pick Skolver or Chaos you won't go over.

In general though you will most likely get a bunch of Chaos Cloak/Black Kat set is the best armor from the people here, honestly though as broken as those sets are I would suggest going with full Vog set. You will need that ASI to get that combo in. Vog is also a safe set to bring to Fire themed levels which the endgame has a lot of.

Well there are two ways to handle the sword- CTR and ASI. If you go with CTR, you get an impressive charge attack that smashes things and does area control. It's best used on enemies that are attempting to get your team mates and trapped or clustered enemies. If you go with ASI, you get the ability to knock enemies back which can be handily combo-ed with guns. Since it is a heavy sword that deals 1x (2x on charge) normal damage, it gets a relatively mediocre boost from damage upgrades, compared to say, combuster.

Once you decide what you want to maximize, do so using some combination of vog, swiftstrike buckler, chaos, sprite perk, trinkets, it really doesn't matter as long as it adds up and defends against some part of what you're fighting to the degree that suits you. Or maximize both, if you're adventurous.

I just wanted to say thanks a

I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for all of the responses.

-Bopp: Your sword guide is excellent, thank you very much for sharing it. Before reading I no idea how great the Chaos Cloak set could be. (Despite you know, status effects.)

-Holy-Nightmare: Turning off AT sounds like a good idea. I agree with you on how it would be a lot smarter to get a Vob Coat instead of the cloak. Eh but I don't know, something about risking everything for CTR crowd obliterater sounds mighty appealing. I think I'll work with both just in case. Thanks for the response!

-Fehzor: CTR sounds like the way to go for me. But I am sort of nervous using the buckler because of how much of a glass cannon that'd make a Chaos Cloak set in return. I know great defense isn't really viable for a risk-taking playstyle. I think I'll find some combination eventually that I'll enjoy. Thanks for the input.

Keep in mind that one piece of chaos or a ctr med uv can do the trick with your sprite perk, and that you don't need both ctr and asi.

Sudas are, in my opinion, more fit for being utility weapons than damage dealers. That said, they're perfectly fine for damage if you use the charge a lot. As previous posters noted, Chaos and Vog Cub items are great with Suda. My personal favourite combination is Chaos+Vog+Swiftstrike Buckler, which gives me a sum of CTR Very High, ASI Ultra, and DI Medium. I happen to have an Undead Very High UV, which allows me to get a Max/Ultra/Max Suda against most enemies in Firestorm Citadel, if I use a sprite perk for getting that last CTR.

Of course, doing all this might be hard. I do strongly recommend that you make a Swiftstrike Buckler to use instead of your Barbarous Thorn Shield, though. It's cheap and allows a more fluent playstyle, although it is of course more dangerous. Learning to midstep and shield cancel with a heavy sword is the key to using it efficiently. For more info on that, I suggest googling it. There should be plenty of threads available regarding both techniques.
