Dealing with Beggars with The Beggar Tax

All MMOs have beggars. Beggars can be annoying, but this game is still too new and we need players (I'm guessing we lost a bit from the last patch). We need to *encourage* people to play this game, and that means dealing with a bit of pain from time to time.

So here is a simple solution to making beggars completely disappear:

Make beggars sell you something

This turns a beggar into an annoying salesman, reinforces how important trade is, gives you a captive audience to explain how bad begging is, and gives you a opportunity to buy mats/armor/recipes/whatever for very cheap.

That last part is important because it gives you incentive to STFU with all this whining you're doing. Whenever I convince a beggar to sell me something instead of just receiving a donation, I make it very clear that I will not pay market rates for anything. I haggle them like crazy, and I make it clear that they are taking a substantial hit versus selling whatever on the auction house.

Most do not care, as they understand they are paying for the convenience of having X now instead of grinding like crazy to have it later.

Have fun and remember to stay positive. All this negativity is really bumming me out, guys.

What a unique perspective!

I like it! I was annoyed by all the random trades and spam friend requests but now I think I'll try your suggestion!

Yah, the negativity is really bumming me out too!

Tried that. They run out of

Tried that. They run out of mats pretty quickly and after that start begging for shards. Also many of them tend to stick whatever money they can find into the NPC vendors for crappy equipment and then even the half honest ones are "stuck / out of energy and cr again" right away.

You can try falling back on

You can try falling back on the old trick.

"The monsters stole all my money! They're all over the Clockworks. Could you get it back from them for me?"

...I haven't had the guts to try it myself yet.

I wouldn't have a problem

I wouldn't have a problem with beggars if the ignore list was hold server-side.
