So yeah, I recently made a Magnus. So far, it has been absolutely awesome to have in tier 1 & 2. Especially against Devilites, the enemies I have the most trouble with.

The best thing about the Magnus, I suppose, is it's ability to put Fiends and Beasts in a state of perma-knockdown lol, plus the added stun chance.

So, would anyone recommend it? And if you do, should I go with the Callahan or the Iron Slug?

This is a frequently asked question. Try a Google search such as callahan iron slug site:forums.spiralknights.com. You will find many threads.

Iron Slug is regarded as one of the worst guns in the game (I don't have it). Callahan is pretty weak, especially since you move soooo sloooowly while charging. But Callahan is fun for sniping silkwings. The bullets are very fast.

Also, the supposedly-impending gunner update is supposed to alter the balance of these guns pretty dramatically. See the Testing Feedback forum.

I recommend that you eventually get a Callahan, once you have a good selection of the more powerful/useful weapons in the game.

As a Callahan user, i really

As a Callahan user, i really recommend it against devilites, because it can flinch them with normal shots pretty often.
The damage is pretty high on normal shots, but it's outperformed by Blitz Needle.

As for Iron Slug, i had that one too, but i dumped it, because it's kinda weak.

Against big fiends like trojans the Blitz Needle is better though.

Also Calla performs relatively good in lockdown if you use it correctly, cuz it's like a slow, long range rigadoon.

Hope i helped.

P.S
Please note that there may be a Gunner Update released soon-ish and Magnus line will have slightly revamped mechanics.

Hmm, I've fought worse

nope.avi

Magnus was the first gun line I made and soon after i realized how weak it was and then jumped on the bandwagon of OP weapons along with everyone else who doesn't feel like trying to be a hipster.

actually here's a list of guns I would not recommend getting:

Catalyzer series, powerful if you play alone,Too hard to use in a party.

Pepperbox: Weak damage overall, lesser range compared to it's sisters blitz/toxic needle and the terrible movement restrictions while using it make this gun obsolete, when it comes to damage blitz needle is best, when it comes to status magma driver beats it by far.

Callahan and Iron slug: lesser range than other guns, harsh movement restrictions, Callahan is not a bad choice in lockdown though, stun is a very useful status when it comes to PVP.

and yes I own all of these guns and have tested them in the battle field several times.

I'd wait for the gunner update, or, if it doesn't come out/change slug, just avoid crafting it.

For some unknown reason, I

For some unknown reason, I absolutely love this gun. I'm almost always using it. I have never, for even a single moment, regretted the fact that I had made this gun.

It's just.... so much fun to use! Especially against enemies with a low knockdown tolerance,

Me: HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAHAH! Dance puny weaklings, DANCE!

As someone who is literally unable to use any other guns because of limitations of my USB mouse and touchpad (one click per second and unable to move the mouse while pressing anything, I mean, really?) ...

Iron Slug and Callahan are my go-to choices for handguns, as someone who plays using the 8-directions-only Arrow Key setup. Given what the gunner Update has in store, I would argue that Iron Slug would become one of the best damage dealing guns.

It's a good gun provided you

It's a good gun provided you don't use the full clip.

Fire, move and inch over, and fire again (repeat).

Single switch-shooting a Magnus is also incredibly easier than with any other gun, if that's your thing.
