You goofball, we have no idea what they've done, if they've done a ton or if they've accomplished literally nothing aside from what we've seen so far; nor do we know or understand their situation. How on earth can you say that they're doing well?

But aren't you voicing your opinion now? And would you really say with confidence (meaning evidence of any kind, not how you feel) that there is a large majority of players, including those that left recently because of how they felt, that actively enjoy the development and social media aspects of the game as it stands now?
I am of course assuming that that is what you mean by "people that enjoy the game"; I enjoy the game. The mass majority posting anything about the game has, at some point, enjoyed the game. If they hadn't, they wouldn't have ever become invested in it enough to post. From my experience, those that cease to enjoy the game leave or come back to post very rarely, and are certainly not a majority.

The term "having a giggle mate" comes to mind. Lets have a quiz to illustrate what I meant by "nor do we know or understand their situation"-
1. Explain the implications of losing Nick, the Lead Designer? What did Nick actually do, and how did losing this aspect of the team effect things?
2. How integrated are Three Rings, the original creators of Spiral Knights, and SEGA? What roles do each actually play in development?
3. What is Three Rings of SEGA's main focus on right now? Is it even Spiral Knights related? Is their main Spiral Knights related endeavor polishing the new guns, or is it on creating a new boss, or on an arcade redux of some sort, or on another event?
4. How much effort is put into creating items for prize boxes, and what do the returns for those look like?
5. Why were radiant fire crystals made to be so rare a month after the introduction of battle sprites? Will there be free versions of the mixmaster/celestial blade?

Grim, you say?
Grim could be associated with the following things:
-Grim as in the Grim Reaper, harvester of souls, Death, which is what Apocrea is based off, so a new version of Apocrea? The first was last Halloween...
-Grim as in the Grim Repeater... as in gunner update, or only that gun released by itself like Tortoguns were.
-Grim as in sadness, as in this is all a trick and there is in fact no update/event at all
-Grim as in "chances of survival are grim", as in there will be an extremely hard mission
-Grim as in Grimm, so new monsters (Possibly Swarm/Void related)
But out of all of these 5 possibilities, it can only be 1 of them
Whichever one it is, it will likely divide the community into 2 parts: "like" and "don't like"
It is also likely that many gamers' irl lives will disappear during the event as they play SK and only SK, even though half of the new content will probably be costumes
And of course there's the possibly that everything I've just said is 100% wrong and completely the reverse of what is actually going to happen.

All I meant was that losing Nick (lead designer/programmer) reduces the efficiency of the SK team.
I thought that it would he rather obvious that losing a leader in any situation is detrimental to the team, but guess I gotta account for the negative 2 sigma people on the IQ scale.

Yes, I'm sure it likely was detrimental but we don't know how detrimental it was. Like I asked you before, what was Nick's role in the development team? "Leader" is great, but what does the "leader" do when developing video games? Go to work every day and tell the artist to work on coding the mixmaster and the programmers to start work on fixing the code for the mixmaster? Does he just sit about coming up with concepts for things, or perhaps he does studies on the game? We cannot possibly judge how big of an effect Nick leaving had on the development team.
I gotta account for the negative 2 sigma people on the IQ scale.
It is a shame for you, that being hurt from such comments is no fault of yours, but mine.

You sir, clearly don't know how game development works. Artists make models via 3d modeling software such as 3dmax or blender... they don't code it. Programmers write the actual behaviour of the item and bamn. Although it could be argued that OOO's artists are the ones doing the programming since all we're seeing is reskins lately but more on that in another thread I'll make soon.

The "grim stuff" could also be a new tier 3 undead boss, since that has been in development for a quite long time and undead is the only family (if you count Vana as fiend and Seerus) without a boss yet.
It could also be the continuing of the story of Herex, the Artifact and The Swarm (which is grim too), or a campaign against the grim Crimson Order.
Or the Core might open and reveal a very grim world or something like that.
Or whatever kind of grim stuff OOO can think of...

Actually these days you need to take a bit of programming when you are studying to do art in the SGD field (simulation and game design) so yes it is possible that the artists had a hand in programming some stuff.
And considering the rumors about the current staff size it is quite possible there are some Programmer/artist hybrids at work.

When the mixmaster came out, I said that it changed things- that now, we had programmers working on boxes, and that the promotion spam was in fact detrimental to the development of the game. People then explained to me how I had no idea about how game development works, and that sometimes artists code things to. They argued, that the mixmaster was coded by some sort of artist with time on his/her hands using old resources.
Here is how game development works:
First, the artists make art assets, and the programmers code part of it.
Then, the artists finish creating the art assets, and begin work on prize boxes.
Then, the artists finish those art assets, and start coding things.
Then, the artists make a bunch of mistakes and release the new things anyway.
Then, the programmers go back and start fixing the artists' mistakes as the artists begin work on more prize boxes.
Then, the programmers don't have time to fix all of the mistakes and go back to coding their thing.
Then, the holidays come and they all drop everything to create that.
That's basically how it was explained to me. Hope it helps!
