Cancelling bids on the AH?

So I dropped a 1500 Crown bid on a Spiral Demo Helm recipe, only to find after scrolling through the listings a bit that another one is listed for 1050 Buy price. I want to cancel my bid and buy the cheaper one, but there seems to be no way to cancel an existing bid. Please tell me this can be remedied, because I will be kicking myself in the buttocks over that 450 Crowns and my buttocks can only take so much kicking.

EDIT:

It's no big deal, I'm not going to freak out over 450 Crowns. it just seemed weird and I'm conditioned to a differant auction system. Apparently I'm the [goofy goober] here. MOVE ALONG PLOX.

Given how bids are meant to

Given how bids are meant to work, the only way to solve the "problem" is to be more observant.

That seems awfully stupid.

That seems awfully stupid. Why wouldn't they let you cancel a bid? You can cancel a bid on the CE market, but you can't cancel a bid on the AH? If I had known that, I would have been much more cautious, but there was no indication that my bid was going to be set in stone.

Works just like real

Works just like real live..... also CE market is a MARKET, not a AUCTION.

Exactly, Magus, if you go to

Exactly, Magus, if you go to a car auction and bid on a car you can't cancel the bid you have to hope someone outbids you. As for CE, yea not a bid so much as a bulletin board that you place a price on, and someone matches you.

That may be the way it works

That may be the way it works in reality, but it's not the way it's worked in any game I've ever played. If things worked like real life games would suck. I'm just sayin', this is against the norm compared to how similar GAME auction systems work, making it unituitive for people who are used to playing other GAMES.

At least a warning would be considerate.

Huh..... can you please tell

Huh..... can you please tell me which game that features a auction system that allows backing out?

WoW does not. Think of it

WoW does not. Think of it this way, if the auction house allowed you to retract bids, you could just put a fake bid on an item you wanted, scaring off any competing bidders. Then when it's down to a short time remaining you could retract that bid and come back with a far lower amount.

It's because I'm used to

It's because I'm used to blind auctions, and it's late so my brain is half turned off. Blind auctions, for the unaware, is when you bid on an item and your bid is matched against the asking prices. If it matches or exceeds the asking price, you get the item. If not, your bid remains posted until someone posts the item with an equal or lower asking price. All either person knows is how many of the item are currently posted, how many people are bidding on the item, and the last five prices it was sold for.

Anyways, that's blind auctions, not the same system, like I said it's from City of Heroes and I'm used to it. I made a mistake and on the internet that's like dangling your ass in front of a pack of starving wolves. Just let the thread die now.
