Yeah, yeah I know there's been a few of these in the past, but they're fairly outdated now.
I only recently, this August, gave into the world of anime. I'm curious to know what are some popular shows/personal favorites of yours?
(subs > dubs)

My personal favorites thus far: I like my feels.
Nagi No Asukara (<3 <3 <3)
Ouran Koukou Host Club (my first one, good laughs here :P)
Clannad + After Clannad (was terribly long, but definitely worth it; i cried)
SAO + SAO II (II is definitely better than the I)
Angel Beats (yes.) / Glasslip (...but the ending confused me)

Sidenote: I realized most of my favorites comprise of the anime from P.A Works lol, but I've seen some from Kyoto Animation too. I also do my research, so that's how I know where these are all from the same studio, coincidentally.

I have a few things on my to watch list, but it doesn't hurt to add more :)

Don't really find anime entertaining but Panty and Stocking was a good watch despite being absolutely stupid.

Sargent Frog is my all time favourite anime, for every ten animes that tried to jerk my tears, this one actually crack me up, my childhood is great enhanced.

Naruto, to be fair, before Shippuden, it was fun to watch, but everything went crap after that (oh look, new OP sharingans and flashbacks!!!). Sakura is also the most useless female anime character of all time, it is not due to the fact that she is useless, but the fact that she thinks she isn't.

Tokyo Meo Meo, I don't even knew why I watched this stupid stuff, I don't think I will like this anime even if I was a girl. Poorman's sailor moon IMO.

Digimon, all of those sexy evolutions (angelwomon, MARRY ME D: ), fusion evolutions, pokemon is grabage compare to Digimons (SHUT YOUR MOUTH PIKACHU!!!). Season 1 and Season 2 were lengendary.

Rosaria + Vampire, harem panty shots, nuff said...

Future dairy, reading a single manga for all eternity can be boring, hanging out with a yandere is what I called exciting...

ps. Does Avatar: legend of Aang (and the sequal legend of Korra) count as anime... I don't know...

I don't think it does, Dj

D.Gray-Man: It's a bit more on the religious side, with stuff like Noah's Ark and God and all that, but it's still an awesome series. I'm not aware of any of the changes between the dubs, but the full 2 seasons (that's been made so far) is only in Japanese dub with English sub.

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! (Jesus, that's a mouthful) aka Watamote: An odd slice-of-life esque short anime series about a shut in gamer girl trying to adapt to High School life. Personally, I prefer the light novel over the anime, as the anime over-exagggerates half of the fails she does, while the novel only has them as the punchline of the mourning (the chapter name rather than "chapter" or "day").

Avatar is amazing, but it doesn't count ( cry every tiem )

There's just a different vibe that comes off of the subs versus the dubs, imo. Like when they're always calling one another by Onee-chan/Onii-chan, last name/first name stuff, people who speak English don't do that lol. There's also the matter of the voice actors/actresses sometimes don't fit the character too when they're being dubbed.

One time I saw this commercial (years ago) where Disney decided to dub some Anime movie and the dubbing was absolutely terrible and it was extremely obvious. The actors words did not even attempt to match up to the characters mouthing, whereas most dubs do. It just made me cringe honestly lol.

Right now I'm sort of watching (as in when I ever have free time lol) this. But I can only handle 1 episode at a time. "hewhoshallnotbenamed" kinda ruined it for me already also, which further reasons me to take it slower.

Afro Samurai fits my style of anime

Dark, brooding, sad, violent, filled with regret and duty.

Plus the sidekick offers some great comedic relief. (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson himself)

How I got into anime:

Chobits was the very first anime I got into (I was 18 and didn't know what anime was back then). Over the years, I took a HUGE intrest into anime and found myself watching more My anime preference seem to jump between very old shows to 2014 stuff (Akame Ga Kill)

http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Mystrian. I finished No game No life, just haven't updated in a while.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun aka

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun aka Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun is about a girl that is interested in a guy, but messes up when confessing her feeling towards him. The guy in question, surprising, is a creator of a shoujo manga( a manga for girls). The girl helps him on his manga, and funniness ensues.

In stark contrast, Deadman Wonderland is about a middle schoolboy who gets framed for the murder of his classmates. He gets sent to a behavior correction facility that doubles as an amusement park. The boy later finds out that he has this weird power that uses his blood. It has blood and gore if you couldn't already figure that out. It's short, with 13 episodes and an unfulfilling ending (the last episode is a flash back) but I would still recommend if you aren't bother by any of things I have said.

Gurren Lagen takes places in a world where humans live underground, and dangerous machines called gunmen, rule the surface. A boy and his friend make it their quest to reach to the surface no matter the cost. Later on, a gunmen crashes into their underground town and turns their world upside-down.

My favorite anime

My favorite anime are

Bleach
There was a lot of story moments I wish it focused more on the fighting but when they did fight it was boss

Fairy Tail
Great anime but no matter how cool the fights were they were very short. In bleach fights averaged around 2-4 episodes in this is 1 episode but fights happened a lot more regularly

Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack on Titan)
Nuff Said.

SAO I and SAO II
It was a great anime and is something gamers can enjoy even is they're not a fan of anime

But my absolute favorite has got to be Code Geass by far (I count Code Geass R1 and R2 as the same anime)
Im not even gonna describe it too you just stop reading this post and go watch it :)

Recommendations (continued)

"SAO"

Panda, have you heard of "log Horizon"? It shares similarites to sword art. The main characters are put into an online world and they don't know how they got there. Although I have not watched SAO, I am planning to watch it and got some info on the series.

Also, do you mind linking your "myanimelist (MAL) if you have one?

People say it's a "web comic". I'm not sure if "WC's" are related to manga though sine you can read manga online and manga is "anime" so i don't know.

source: http://myanimelist.net/clubs.php/clubs.php?cid=26616

It may be a subclass of anime though since homestuck is on myanimelist.

Yeah, I one. It's up to date. (since you asked I went through and updated)
Yeah that Trinity Seven, lol, I like the story okay. Mages are pretty cool. Too much lady-parts to "please" the gents though in my opinion - it's too excessive. (You'd understand if you watched it)

Log Horizon is pretty much

Log Horizon is pretty much the best anime about video games. SAO barely counts as a video game anime, it's pretty much just your average action anime with better than average animation. No Game No Life is okay, but Log Horizon's got it beat.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun was pretty much, the funniest thing I've watched all year.

Barakamon is sweet and makes you feel all fuzzy inside.

A couple of stand-outs this year includes WIXOSS, Bahamut, Vanadis and Twintails. But I haven't gotten around to watching any of them lol :p

As for all time favorites.....

I'm a big fan of Madoka. It's great, but I don't recommend it for the weak of heart.

Bakemonogatari is another anime I'm fond of, made by the same team as Madoka, but nowhere near as horrifying. The style is a little difficult to follow though, I don't recommend this one to anyone who's still new to anime in general.

Digimon Tamer is the best digimon. 'Nuff said.

Though I know a lot of them, I'm actually not that big on the Anime scene. I read a lot more manga than I do anime :p

Awesome! Fan of madoka too? Selector infected (spread for 2nd season) deals with psychological experiences, has lolies as mains, and is a "magical girl" anime too. Been meaning to get into the madoka movies, but 1 and 2 are recaps

Where do you get your anime scheduals from? Didnt even now WIXOSS was 2014 :p

I watched one ep of Gekkan Shoujo awhile back but didn't really get it... But since it's been suggested a few times, I thought I'd get it another go. You're all right, it is very funny so far haha.

@Mystrian

I saw a random picture from somewhere that said WIXOSS was Anime Of The Year.

I get most of my anime from surfing around 4chan. The place is toxic as hell, but sometimes you can find some real gems.

artstyle

shingeki no bahamut: genesis

I have never seen this art style before it's different (sorta)

what arts from anime do you like/don't like or think "this is quite a unique style"?

Unique artstyle

The first to come to mind would be Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong.

Also, everything by Gainax (Kill La Kill, Panty Stocking, TTGL, etc)

....And everything by Shaft.

Bakemonogatari is pretty.... unique. To say the least. But it's pretty enjoyable, even if most of the japanese wordplay is lost in translation.

Madoka's fight scenes are multicolored works of... I hesitate to say art. They're certainly special, that's for sure.

Maou Maoyuu Yuusha (The first work of Marmalade-sensei, creator of Log Horizon) has a very distinct, but nonetheless very pretty artstyle.

Not an Anime, but mangaka Douman Seiman has a VERY unique artstyle. Though I for one, really like it.

Another manga with a very unique artstyle is Oyasumi Punpun. That manga is a favorite of mine, the ending is beautiful, but reading through the story requires nothing less of an Iron constitution.

And full of ridiculous music with ridiculous characters.

Nichijoin- UH I MEAN Nichijou
I swear to god, if you don't watch the whole scene...
I don't normally watch anime (I got turned off somewhere they got a little too exposisitive), but DANG does Nichijou make the most redundant things explosive, like how the typical "tsunundre girl" uses guns, machine guns, cannons, mounted machine gun turrets....
The unique thing is that there is no real story. "My Everyday Life" is just stories told by regular people. Except for, well, the fact that they all become ridiculous. And that one of them is a young child prodigy. And that two of her creations are a robot with a windup key on her back and a scarf that lets a cat talk. Ok so maybe not normal AT ALL.
