Hi, I have recently updated my Mac to the latest OS X 10.10 Yosemite and updated Java to Java 8 Update 25 as it is the only supported version. However, I still received the warning to install the Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) to view the web content when I tried to launch from Steam. Any suggestions?

Same problem here

You're not the only one who has this problem, I have this problem too ever since I got Yosemite as well! I kept installing Java 8 also, but nothing happened! What's the matter with this game now!? I don't want to miss out on this event either! Can someone please help fix this very soon?

works for me.

I had Java 8 already installed when I updated to OS X 10.10. I went ahead and let OS X install the JRE when it asked. SK runs without error (standalone. I haven't tried it through Steam nor in a browser).

And yet, when I type "java -version" in a terminal window, it says "java version 1.8.0_20". That's Java 8. It doesn't seem as though Apple's code is running at all.

(That's on my Mac. My Ubuntu laptop is another story...)

Java SDK

Download the latest Mac OS X Java SDK from oracle.com. The JRE alone won't get it working. Once that file has been installed, you should be able to play SK on Steam in OS X Yosemite again.

Which version of Java you

Which version of Java you installed? What is Steam player? You meant Steam itself?

The only java version this game will work with on OS X is Java 6 from apple, link in post #4

Hm, did you try to disable

Hm, did you try to disable steam overlay? Clean reinstall of steam (with appcleaner.app for example)? Remove all other java versions? I've tried webclient on fresh install of Yosemite, and everything runs just perfect.

Need Developer Java not Basic Runtime

Dolomitix is right. I wish his comment would have come up when I was trying to find a fix, instead of figuring it out myself.
You need to install Java Developer Kit, not Java Runtime Environment.

I discovered that even though the web client for Spiral Knights runs by installing the standard Java Runtime Environment, the steam client will not run unless you install the Java Developer Kit. Java 6 or Java 1.6 is not required. It successfully ran on OS X 10.10 for me just now using Java Developer Kit 8 (1.8).

So basically java runtime environment bad - java developer kit good.
