So the other day I was wondering why were scarabs inside the Undead family being that they're not Undead themselves, they're just beetles, so I did my research and found out that scarabs were also a type of stone carving used by the egyptians as jewelry, also used for funerary purposes such as necklaces for mummies , or being placed in tombs, thus explaining their relationship with the undead family.

Kthxbye!

Fun Fact #2

Scarabs, also known as the dung beetles, were considered sacred by the Egyptians. They belived that the sun was pushed by one such beetle day by day from one side of the horizon to the other.

Mr Flibbles is more sacred!

Scarabs, also known as dung beetles, were known to push balls of dung. The Egyptians believed that the sun was pushed by one such beetle every day from east to west. The Egyptians believed that the sun was a great ball of dung...

Well, what does seem more attractive for you? a ripoff from some fictional dumb movie or an actual thing related to human culture and history?

Mummy movie = stolen

Egyptian history = culture

@ Aviri

It was the Mummy movie that introduced the concept of there being a Carnivorous and aggressive scarab beetle.

While the movie did take the beetle from Egyptian ancient culture, the Scarab from Egyptian culture is the "Scarabaeus Sacer" a beetle that is passive and feeds on dung. The Sacred Scarab (as mentioned above) in ancient Egyptian culture is thought to be connected with the movement of the sun, as well as Ra the Sun god (also their creator and thus associated with life). Much like other ancient cultures anything associated with the sun is considered good, in the Mummy movie they are portrayed as evil and associated with death.

The only link between the Egypt of the movie and the real Egypt is that they considered the beetles as bringers of the sun.

If the Mummy movie had not existed I believe it would have been less likely that the SK Dev team would have thought up evil, and dangerous scarabs.

yeah yeah I know that the movie based it's stuff on actual egyptian culture, but the concept of scarabs being related to death, Isn't something that necessarily had to be taken from that movie, like I mentioned in the OP, scarabs (the stone carvings, not the insect) were used for mummification purposes and placed on tombs, and they are also related to the book of the dead and the cycle of life in the egyptian culture.

But scarabs in spiral knights being agressive does kind of seem more like something taken from the movie, pherhaps the origins of scarabs as an undead enemy were both inspired by the movie's concept of scarabs and the actual scarabs of the egyptian culture.

and everyone lived happily everafter, the end.

That the 5* versions of the shade helmets look an awful lot like the phanto mask from Mario Bros, y'know, those things that watched over keys that would chase you if you picked them up.

This is most evident on the 5* ghost helmets (ghost...phantom...phanto... lolz) where the mask is divided in 2 colors in the same way that phanto masks are, not to mention that the shape of the eyes is identical.
