Anyone know the cost to get gear from 2* to 5* including recipe and orbs?

The only way to come out ahead of buying gear straight from Kozma is to grind for at least some of the orbs and other rarities, so it really depends on the route you take to get there.

Cost of crafting materials = Recipe costs + Material/Rarity costs + Time Costs

If you only pay for recipes, and consider buying the materials and rarities with time as a "free resource" (as you presumably enjoy crafting the thing), it will cost you 40K crowns or less if you take advantage of the auction house to purchase the 2/3* version for cheaper than what it would cost for you to craft it.

If you pay for as much as possible with ce/cr, it will cost you at most 6.3K CE for radiants + 3.5K CE for the item = 9,800 CE and the time to heat from level 1 to level 10. If you don't buy the item directly from the supply depot, it will cost you 6.3K CE (radiants) + 3.6K CE (Shinings) + 700 CE (eternal orbs) + 400 CE (elite orbs) + 40K cr (recipes) + .... which is already way over 9.8K CE.

Assuming you're unusually lucky and can manage to get all of the materials & Orbs of Alchemy (especially seeing as how Eternal Orbs of Alchemy seem to drop more frequently than Elite Orbs of Alchemy) from the Clockworks and/or missions to craft a single 5-star item from a basic 2-star item, and frequently grind the Clockworks & missions for any & every Fire Crystal up to Shining, you won't have to spend nearly as much as you'd think.

However, not factoring in higher-level materials (not only because of their fluctuating price in the Auction House, but also because you'll find enough of them on your own while in the process of heating your new item) or any of the lesser Fire Crystals (for the same previously stated reason), the grand (approximated, due to the fluctuating prices of CE) total in crowns/CE to craft & fully heat a single 5-star item from a 2-star item is 676,900 crowns, or nearly 8,500 CE. :/

That, and......it's even worse if you're going for a special event item, like the Obsidian Edge/Obsidian Carbine/Obsidian Crusher, or an item that can only be crafted at the Sanctuary Alchemy Machine. In those particular instances, you will also have to worry about having to spend crowns/CE on numerous Sparks of Life, and/or contributing to the cost of a Shadow Lair Key. :/

it's supposed to take a while

When you want to craft a new item, you should expect to buy your Orbs of Alchemy (from the Supply Depot using energy). On those rare occasions when you have enough Orbs already lying around, you should be pleasantly surprised.

The process of upgrading to 5 stars is supposed to take a while. If it were too fast, then players would burn through the items too quickly and lose interest in the game. A substantial fraction of the players seem not to actually enjoy the play, but only the sense of progress.

The total cost varies wildly from player to player, depending on how many resources (Orbs, Fire Crystals, materials, etc.) you have saved up, and how long you're willing to wait to find Radiant Fire Crystals before getting your 5-star items to heat level 10. If you just want a simple answer that incorporates all cost up-front, then surely almost all of the cost is in the Radiant Fire Crystals, as Fehzor has explained.

conclusion?

Orbs from supply depot are cheaper than AH? Huh...why did I think AH would be cheaper. So cost would be 20k for a 3* item + 32k for three Elite orbs (with 8k per 100 CE) + 64k for three eternal orbs + 10k for 4* recipe + 25k for 5* recipe. 151,000 Crowns. Shining Fire isn't too terrible to get. Does this sound good or am I missing something or is there a cheaper way?

crafting costs, materials, radiant fire crystals

You've left out the crafting costs paid at the alchemy machine, although that's not many crowns. You've left out the materials, which are hard to assess. You've left out the Radiant Fire Crystals, which is a dramatically larger cost than everything else combined.

151k+2.5k for 4* crafting +

151k+2.5k for 4* crafting + 5k for 5* crafting. Most materials are relatively cheap so maybe 3k total (might be an over estimate). So about 161,500 just to get to 5* (not including radiant fire) and about 676,900 to max out 5* including Fire crystal costs. Thanks guys.
