Tempered Calibur not leveling up past level 8

Yeah i just returned from hiatus. About 2 years maybe . And i was leveling up my Temper Calibur , BUT it doesnt seem to go past level 8.
Is that something new to the game OR am i glitching? OR is it some kind of glitch?
They changed the way heating is done, your weapons no longer level up automatically, you have to "forge" them in Haven/arsenal stations/etc in order to level them. This requires heat crystals that you find in levels.
