How often do you use the minimap or map overlay?

I myself am constantly toggling the map whenever I'm not in combat, and even when I'm fighting people that don't need my full attention I'm checking the minimap to see where my team-mates are and if I need to be somewhere else.

I know not everyone plays LD every day like I do or cares that much about doing well, but it really seems like the people who do play well are the ones that can read the minimap well and know what to expect when they see a point being taken or a team-mate dying.

You can honestly read so much from just watching that little map. You can tell when someone's not paying attention because they'll be standing still next to me while our green dots are disappearing off the minimap right underneath us, and I'll know that in future this person wont be worth shielding because they'll just get my shield broken.

In case you're reading this and don't have map overlay set to a convenient key (mine's right next to my dash), do it now! It only takes a second to toggle it quickly and it helps so much!

I get distracted if I toggle the map, i just watch the one in the corner. Enough to make my next move.

I use it while I m walking

I use it while I m walking that is to say while Im ot of boost and also sometimes while runningbfrom one point to another. Apart from that, I always look at it while I m capping. it enables me to choose my next destination ( if I see a teammate dying or a point being uncapped).

I think that s it, I never look at it during fight, only when my eyes don t need be focused so that I can be reactive enough.

I check the map as often as possible, really. Gotta know where you're needed and what's happening. I don't check either map during combat of course.

What do you mean with "green dots"?

By green dots I just meant

By green dots I just meant team-mates as shown on the map be they green, purple, whatever.

Three words: All the time! Like every 5 seconds.

I check it so often that sometimes I find myself fighting opponents with the map covering my screen!

Was a great addition to gameplay.

It's nice to have when you

It's nice to have when you need to know where your teammates are.... other than that it can leave you open to getting snuck up on by recons....

It would be really nice if it didn't cover player icons with points, and if it showed you enemies that you or your teammates had vision of. If it did, I would use it a lot more, but as of right now I only use it occasionally when I'm sitting on a point in a relatively safe position waiting for it to finish capping. It's distracting otherwise.

Oh, also having the option to hold down the button instead of a toggle on/off would be great.

+1 Klipik

Map is kind of useless as it is now. My team needs me most where there is an enemy point. The only time when I actually do need to follow teammates around is as guardian. In that case I literally follow them. Besides, strikers zoom around so often it's impossible to not find a teammate after setting off towards an uncapped point.
I don't discriminate who I protect, since any distraction improves my survivability greatly.

I lubs it

I don't play much Guardian but as a Recon the map is invaluable and I use it all the time while walking cloaked.

Not having the speed of a striker it makes it hard to position yourself strategically, as support for a gaurdian/striker that is under pressure, to trap/kill passing enemies or which point to cap.

The map not only lets you choose your destination but also lets you know which target on the enemy team might (and I say might) be an easy kill. If I have to choose between two points and one is empty and the other had teammates having a grand time trying to cap and then dying, I know I am going to go to that point because they have probably softned up some poor guardian or striker that is in urgent need of a 20 sec respawn. I could kinda get that from the mini map but now I see the whole playingfield.

i keep it up almost all the time regardless of where i'm at, map's not opaque enough to be a huge deal visually and it's easier to watch the map to see where i want to go next as opposed to waiting to see where someone dies on my team from the mini-map in the corner

other than that, i follow the opposite mentality of sprunk and go to the cap on the map with the least concentration of players from my team, if only because at that point it's the second best option for the opposing team to head towards if they're getting shut down outside of their base, and there's less interruption overall from my own teammates which is a win/win in my book

I dont really use the mini

I dont really use the mini map, the small map in the top corner works just fine.

I use stalling tactics anyways, since wasting 30 seconds when a beast like Polyphobia or Retequizzle is on the other time is worth like 2 minutes for your probably derpy team to realize that they can cap.

Minimap does tell you where the fight it, since your team's dots would be clustered and moving erratically, which suggests they are in the process of getting rekt or demolishing someone.

Whenever I cap

I'd also say I use it to help me decide where to go next but I'd be lying.. instead .. I always have it on when I cap to laugh at the little dots when they stay still and disappear to pass the time.

Also: I think recons should be able to see both teams on the map.

You guys are awesome. Just the fact that you use the map at all is a step up from the average seek-and-destroy player. Good stuff.

Good shout-out Dutch

Using the map can be a way to predict where to go seek and destroy too.

I always toggle minimap. For non-striker classes, going to an area in map is a time commitment, so watching your striker teammates get in fights (you can tell when the dot moves-and-stops in short distances) and paying attention to how fast they die can help you figure out whether there are enemies in a certain direction, and whether it's worth it for you to go that way.
