Status Resistance on Shields

Okay, so I recently got myself an Angelic Helm to give me a bit of shadow damage resistance. However, as many would know, Angelic set items grant a penalty to fire resistance. So, to counter this, I decided to invest in an Owlite Shield, which appear to give a very potent bonus to fire resistance.

Now, this is where I run into a problem. When I check my defensive stats (bottom left corner of the equipment window), and it appears as though the shield is not affecting my inherent fire/shock resistance in any way. Does this mean that shield-based resistances only apply when you are actively blocking? On a logical level, I suppose this might make sense, but on a gameplay level, it does not. If I'm blocking an attack, I am instantly going to negate the chance of being afflicted with a negative status anyway, aren't I? Assuming that my shield can fully absorb the blow that is charged with the status effect.

Is my reasoning sound, here? Or is there something that I'm missing?

Status effects have a chance

Status effects have a chance to go through your shield.. I think..
So by having status resistances on the shield, that chance is lowered..

Not entierly sure.. so I wanna know too :)

I can answer that i think.

I can answer that i think. Status resistance on shields work only when you shield.

Just like how the extra health your shield gives does not add to your health passively, but "adds" to your ability to take hits when you shield.

And if you're blocking you can still be inflicted with a status effect as long as the monster lands a hit on you or your shield. * Think greavers*

Shields do not give passive

Shields do not give passive status resistance.

Blocked attacks will never inflict status effects on you. (Greaver mist is, by the way, unblockable. It's the monster equivalent of the Haze Bomb- the only defense is "don't stand in it too long.")

A shield with a status resistance will take much less damage from attacks that can inflict that status effect.

For example: a Lumber golem can easily punch through almost any shield, or at least leave it in the yellow or orange "about to break" zone. The Plate Shield series, however, has Stun resistance. Since the Lumber golem's attack has a stun effect, the Plate shield series can stand up to multiple hits from Lumbers.

It fares the same as other shields on other attacks. It's just the resistance to Stun that gives it an advantage over Lumbers.

Ok if a attack that causes

Ok if a attack that causes fire and you have fire resistance and you shield that mean the shield takes less damage from the attack.simple for other statuses
