The half ring around the planet?

Greetings to you all, fellow Knights.
So I was looking at the animation that you can watch at the beginning of creating a character and I saw that cradle had a goldish half ring around it, which leads to my question;
What is the half ring around cradle?

I don't know, but I suspect that it's some combination of these art ideas/influences:
In real life, globes are mounted on rings like this. Globes seem to be a standard feature of steampunk design. Three Rings' office is decorated in steampunk motif. So this all seems aesthetically consistent.
Within the game, Cradle is a huge machine. Smaller "domes" or "pockets" or "worlds" are mounted within the Clockworks, and move around as the Clockworks moves. Perhaps Cradle itself is just a pocket in a larger machine, and the golden ring is its mounting.
Edit: Fixed typo.

how do you not notice that until now?

It's possibly an excuse to create a future DLC pack but after the first one Nick said that there wouldn't be anymore.
Oh well....

@Gbot-Vtwo
A goldfish ring...That's utterly terrifying and awesome at the same time
@OP
A goldfish ring. In all seriousness, I never noticed it XD

Just a random side note: The Orbit Aura has this as well.

It appears that cradle rotates on it, the same way Earth rotates on its poles.
Hmm... Yes. It is probably for a globe. Maybe...
Wait a second, move this to the treasure vault! It's a lore question!

Ahahahaaa! Yes, LORE! LOVE THE LORE!!
Ahem... So the half ring is a question that needs to be solved still?

Attack of the giant half eaten cookie. Joking aside, I don't know.
