I haven't used it extensively yet, but I've found it to actually be a bit worse than it was before somehow.
a simple mechanic swap wouldnt make it OP
if anything it would be on par with the balanced things
and how can that make it worse, aside from people who just use the regular shots and not charges?
I'm hoping I can at least use it more reliably in combat now, I've had an ASI H Neutralizer and ASI VH Biohazard sitting in my inventory for the longest time.
For reference, I was doing (with full damage in a T2 run)-
Normal shots: about 50 damage
Charge shots: about 200 damage
I can spam the normal hits faster, but I'm guaranteed to do damage with the 200, and I do more than a full clip of damage.
I think the fact that everyone (meaning myself) will be constantly, accidentally, automatically using Charge shots instead of Normal shots might keep it from being anywhere near OP for a time at the very least. Turns out switching a Normal mechanic with a Charge mechanic takes awhile to get used to.
It makes it less viable in PvP. Hitting people with the sticking normal shots would be easy, but it doesn't do damage and hitting someone with the slow charged shot would be hard, especially against a striker. I haven't used my catalyzer since the update so I don't know if the charge shot is still slow or whatever. And I'm not that great at PvP anyway. Sooooo yeeeaaah.
in T3 it does around 350 per charge shot. you can actually kill turrets in 3 charge shots.
to par that damage with tag bombs, you need 4-5 of those. so, right now the charge shot is the main method of attacking of the catalyzer line: it's more reliable, it has knockdown and no knockback. take this as an example: the normal shot is nitrome and the charge shot is DBB.
Is catalyzer charge the new iron slug? Tonight at 7, you decide!
Catalyzer wasn't viable for PvP to begin with, it's more of a PvE weapon.
Edit: Oops, relocating.
I would think they lowered the damage per explosion to compensate. Hopefully it's not as low as it was in the Test Server though, because it was actually weaker than the original version then. I haven't tested it in the actual game yet, so I'll have to play around with this version and get back to you.
