Shieldless Gun Switching/Gun Attack Cooldown

(Posting this in Coliseum since it's primarily a LD concern, let me know if it should be moved to Bug Reports or something.)

With the new gunner update, I'm unable to shieldless gun switch. Previously the mechanic was roughly as follows:

  • Shoot bullet
  • Hit (next weapon) keybind twice
  • Repeat

or

  • Shoot bullet
  • Hit (weapon 1) keybind
  • Hit (weapon 2) keybind
  • Repeat

An example can be seen here. The major advantage was throwing out a ton of bullets in quick succession without using up boost/cloak and without having to time the new shot; it'd buffer the swaps until they were possible. Post-update, it seems that all guns act like movement-impairing guns did pre-update: swaps can't be buffered until the full attack animation is complete.

Pretty sure I ran into other people who used this, can anyone confirm that it's no longer possible?

It is no longer possible yes

It is no longer possible yes and I believe it should be moved to bug reports as well because it would be quite ridiculous to nerf guns in such a manner(since quite a few maneuver's can't be pulled off anymore due to this and DPs of guns in general drops cause of this).

It's not a bug. It's new behavior.
It was like this on Test Server.

Skill ceiling lowered by this "new behavior."

I would greatly appreciate its addition back into the game.

Ex. As striker, running out of boost, one could still shoot and switch back to sword to deal with closer enemies. Now, it takes a ridiculous amount of time to switch. 100% would appreciate its re-addition. Seems like a "minor" change but it completely nerfs a playstyle which did not need nerfing, at all.

And of course I agree with OP's comment.

This is fair. I mean, you can

This is fair.

I mean, you can still shield cancel. Just have to be smart about using boost.

I like this new mechanic, gunners/hybrids already were the best class before the update and giving them more speed and damage without any penalization would make LD so boring.

This is to benefit magnus and autogun lines. And I think it worked.

Can't you just pause shoot as before, or have the increased the time between shots and automatic clip resets? Anyway, if it's a nerf to strikers and a nerf to the only way anyone ever plays this silly minigame, I think it's terrific.

I tested it, it seems to have

I tested it, it seems to have similar time between shots. It lookz like the timer is set where as soon as your gun is about to drop, you can fire another shot (talking about alchemerz here)

And yeah, new nerf to strikers is awesome

Contri is incorrect, it appears. While it's true that you can't switch as fast as before becuase your char holds the gun up for longer, you can still pause shoot and such just as before.

Welp

Apparently there was another way to switch that I never knew about.

I've always used shield cancelling with guns in LD so I don't see the big deal, you just have to be more particular with shots / boost consumption. If you're a gunner you should know to keep your distance and save your dash for when you're out of boost to buy some time for it to refill.

It's not hard lads.

You've gotta point out that this only applies to guns, you can still switch/double switch with swords without the shield cancel.

Yeah that got removed, instead, there's a more "casual" way now!

While you are unable to rapidly switch weapons after firing a gun anymore, there is a technique similar that fires at a rate near as constant as the old method, simply by pressing your attack button about 0.75 seconds after a shot (without ASI), as I've demonstrated here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF0Yvdgxpg4

The obvious drawbacks being if you commit to this you can't switch to another weapon without using your shield, but it's the best I got.
