:(
[we're the lady in case that wasn't clear]
meanwhile swordsmen
my point is, this is the only content update [events don't count] that we have had in over a year, and while the game may be revived for gun people, for bombers and swordmen it's really all the same.
gun people are having all the fun [i'm happy for y'all] while people not interested in guns feel this update as pretty bleak.
don't get me wrong i'm very happy about it and want one of the armors for a costume, but overall it's a big "meh" to me, especially after all the hype, being a swords-only person.
also i think in the short term the basil-only availability is a good thing [more arcading], but in the long-run it's really, really, not. and the armor namings and varieties are so incredibly confusing. could they really not improve that in... 4 months? that's how long it's been since the test server?
time to wait for arcade redux. fsc makes me sick and i can't wait to play the game again.
Then stop being so narrow and get some guns
To me the Sprite update along with the new shard bombs was the Bomber update. And swords don't need an update, they deal enough damage as is. Last time we got a sword update the Acheron got buffed, and that's something we didn't need.
i dont like guns
i just want more levels :(
the armors are not confusing
look in the arsenal
theres a topic with a visual diagram of the system used to classify/identify all the new things
and if you try out guns, you might find some you like, and get new strategies because of it
I'm actually glad that they did it this way. Why? Because it allows them to balance weapon types one at a time. Next up, they can do swords or bombs, and guns will have to wait for a while before getting fixes. For now though, they've got some problems to sort out, or most likely choose to ignore.
Ugh, I get the feeling that this update didn't bring as much life to the forums as it did entitlement and whining >.<
Thank god Fehzor's still here to keep dishing out level-headed, unbiased information on not only the status of the game and its mechanics, but also the state of the community.
Well, swords still have some decent power. I mean, some of these guns have been buffed to the point of making Brandishes look weak, but I am still using some swords. Then again, I've stopped using most weapons for power and more of for role play of my own characters, but it still holds true.
I pull out heavy weapons a lot. They have always been good pairs for guns. Their current utility is the same as it has always been. Shoving multiple enemies away and dealing some decent damage on the way. Brandishes still destroy everything, but the Iron Slug may be taking their place. (IS replacing a Brandish? Go figure.)
Dude. Dude what? Whyyyyy? In what way do you want swords to be improved? They're still the most powerful in terms of raw damage. If anything, I think the game is finally balanced now.
...Unless you're a bomber.
It is the bombers that should be lamenting, numerous damage and status resisting sets for gunners, and swords so useful with area control that bombers have been demoted to filling the Shivermist/EV niche for Vana and even then most convert to Chaos and become a hybrid.
The Pure bomber is an endangered species.
Endangered? I thought they were extinguished long time ago, I want to know where are the remaining specimens O_O
At this point, the only way a pure bomber could keep up with the others now would be if we went back to the beta days before fuse time were invented.
Swords don't really need anything. I've been playing with the new guns and Magnus changes all day, but just now I switched back to Acheron to deal with a mecha knight arena. Still as easy as it was, and still top-tier.
Swords need to get rid of AHEM... certain bugs and maaaaaybe some some minor balance tweaks, but a buff? nah, definitely not needed.
@Aviri
That never came across as a bug. It never said that every swing had to have the same range anywhere.
In a realistic sense, this doesnt make sense, unless the knight has an elastic polymer arm or something.
I always assumed the hitbox for the final hits of swords was extended to account for the knockback of the first hit hit(s).
I would love to be a pure bomber, if you met and asked me to do it.
So basically you're saying that it is a completely natural thing that your sword clips through things but it doesn't really cause damage to them?
Besides I already showed in the video that all finishing swings in combos of swords have in fact more reach than the first two, but when actually used while not blocked by a wall the hitbox is behind a player and misses when it shouldn't. There is no way of saying that this isn't a bug, more so if the player hitbox is directly colliding with an object it has in front while swinging a sword yet it somehow misses the target? that is not only ridiculous, it is just plain impossible.
You seem to have misunderstood what I was trying to adress with my post, the problem isn't that the swings of sword combos have less reach, its the exact opposite, they have more reach, but they aren't well placed according to the animations for them and that hinders all sword users, at least while they're performing combos.
@Aviri
My mistake. I know what you mean now.
So, when using a brandish for example, using the full combo on, say, a skelly, would let the first two hits connect, but the third would appear to swing right through the skelly?
This was annoying, but minor, since it can be solved by midstepping. Still significant though.
Midstepping would help you drive the hitbox closer to the monster in question to actually hit it, but the hitbox would still be as misplaced, the problem is that the hitbox doesn't move with the player, it stays on the point you initiated the swing and only the player is the one that actually moves, and I would not consider this to be a minor thing since some swings have their reach reduced about 80/90% (flourishes and cutters last swing) 3 hit standard swords like leviathan blade and combuster have it reduced by about 40% and heavy swords are the less affected because they have the less forward movement in their animation, i'd say that they have their 2nd swing reach reduced by 15/20% it gets worse the more the animation moves the player forward to make the swing.
And btw if you still want to discuss that I'd suggest you to do it on my post rather than here. (even though this post is kind of a joke and very insignificant, hardly worth saving but at least to keep things in order)
Swordies have Brandishes. Isn't that enough?
Bombers have...wait, what?
Bombers have been demoted to pretty much status infliction (DR and DBB is pretty much all the team friendly bombs there are besides haze) since we have demonized Shard and blast bombers so much.
Aye. Bombers need some representation.
I would love to go full bomber, but they're just so "weak"* that I would be better off farming using "OP" guns and swords.
Besides, they kinda screwed us semi and pure bombers over with the new gunner update...
I think we have enough strong weapons and armors, all we need for now, is a strong boss for us to torture.
they never announced a sword update
they wouldnt put swords in a gun update
bombs need an update more than swordies
they have not announced that either
there is still an arcade redux in the works
there is still an extension to rank missions too
that gif shows that swordies wanted something for them put into an update made for someone else
