There was also a rumor floating around that the preview event would end on January 1st. Oh, and that the world is going to end on May 21st. You didn't by any chance hear this from the guy posing as an admin, right?
Put it this way: If you didn't hear it from a dev, then it isn't true at all. I wouldn't believe "my friend's friend's sister's buddy heard it from the dev"s either.
I don't deny there's a possibility - the last preview event also ended last February? I'm sure the developers will announce it on the forums or in-game if they chose to end the preview event.
