I thought I'd just make a thread because I haven't seen one yet (maybe I missed it, though) about the new Callahan/Iron Slug/Winter Grave and its comparison to rebalanced autogun series.

My first thoughts after seeing callahan hit trojans and vana for 500x3 and tear through slags in a competitive sense is "which one is better now"- merited I've owned a callahan with CTR Med UV for so long, I officially get to say "I had it before it was cool", so I know Callahan generally has fallen under a support or tactical role gun instead of a damage gun, (between ungodly high flinch, large vs mob blast radius, being more mobile than an autogun, and stun proc galore.) but at the same time I feel for such a slow gun, its power was fairly low-key. Then the patch happened.

Got my hands on a winter grave as fast as I could, and while it's in a slightly different family of use from Magnus, it's still wonderful... I still won't own an iron slug, though. But wow, my favorite heavy piercing gun got a shadow variant? Oh wait, so did the blitz. I was thinking about running some tests (I own a blight needle with CTR as well) until I ran into a few guildmates using autogun series while I was using magnus/tundrus series...

And then I realized the beautiful thing: Neither is better. As much as the Callahan has invaded into the "heavy assault weapon" school of... trade, let's call it, the guns are still leagues apart in function.

M/T series have deep, line-type AOE and a very precision and debilitation centered sort of delivery.
Autogun has a broad, high DPS/suppression based sort of delivery.

While one could argue about more common enemy spreads and best average DPS, blitz still dominates single targets by far and magnus is still more tactical by far... but put together these guns are simply THE BEST tag team. All that unrivaled stopping power, now with more mobility/range that has a more precise, deep form of stopping power that keeps HVT's pinned down- and the same postal delivery service themed, high-spread flinch/DPS delivery that makes sure that M/T series users don't get overrun or cornered.

My advice: get some friends together, get your hands on probably either Blitz/Chaingun and Callahan/Winter Grave and go shred the world anew with heavy firepower delivered from a convenient range. Heck, each person with Iron Slug/Pepperbox for pick-and-choose would even do nicely. Playing with friends, there's nothing quite as fun as just rolling in and blasting everything to bits in a no-bars, all-out sort of fighting sense.

EDIT: Mad run ons, methinks. Too lazy, you get the point.

TL;DR: Magnus + Autogun = Winning team of ranged firepower. Try it out.

Max DPS or a bit of survivability?

Autogun lines deal out more DPS but the Magnus series focuses a bit more on defensive status.

The only defensive autogun is the Plague needle and it still is mainly offensive oriented since it debuffs enemy attack and defense.
