Only black screen instead of loading screen

I haven't played the game on this computer for a while, so I don't exactly know the cause...
I'm using OpenJDK 8, SUSE 12.3 and the fglrx driver version 14.5. I can start the game, and see everything the way it should be on the login- and control room-screens. But when I then select a mission or click the button to go to Haven, all I get is a black screen. No loading, no music, no nothing, just blackness. I can still access and use the menu using the ESC-key, but that's it.
How can I fix that?

every time you start to load something there's a black screen before it shows the 0% loading screen
Its just your computer hasn't loaded anything (at all)

No, it shows nothing. It's just the black screen. No matter how long I wait, there won't be a loading screen appearing, nor anything else.

Yes, that's exactly what I said
It has to load the graphics for the loading screen
And its not doing that for you
Do I need to say it a third time?

What are you even doing in

What are you even doing in the tech support forum, just trolling around? Unfortunately doesn't solve the problem.

I'm stating what the actual problem is, its best to know what's wrong before fixing it

↓

I've gotten this "crash" a couple times when a large numbers of players were playing on the servers at the same time.

I'm assuming it has something to do with a lost request for instance information.
I resolved it by killing the process [if you're on windows, open task manager and kill java.exe, if you're on linux... ps -af to find the process number and kill the process, if you're on mac... it just works and you don't have this problem according to advertisements].
Closing attempts to log out the player, killing the process locks the player in its current location and re-loading the client attempts to rejoin in the previous location.

Hm, I just tried that, but

Hm, I just tried that, but that didn't work. The only effect it had was that at the next start, I can't log in (it says "Logging in..." forever without anything happening).
