Why is there even an option to erase UV's?

You know that little check box. The one that says "keep your UV's".
Why is that even a thing? I mean think about it.

On the one hand you can keep your whatever good/trash UV's and upgrade them to higher levels.

But let's say you have a trash UV, like construct low on a pulsar.
Would it make more sense to have a "reroll + upgrade option" instead of checking it off to erase?
You already battled the odds of buying or crafting a UV onto a weapon.

There's the counter argument that people would just buy trash UV's for cheap to craft up for a better chance at a better UV, but you still have to factor the high cost of 3*,4*, and 5* crafting, which in the end is probably more pricey than standard Punch UV rolling.

What do you think?

Why would you even consider erasing a UV?

well

Maybe you got a bad iv like gremlin low on a fire burst brandish, so when you craft into a blaze brand you can have anot her chance to get another u since you won't get the chance to get one if you keep the uv.

I erased the UV off my Blazing Pulsar because I wanted a vanilla Wildfire; the idea of having Slime Low on an Elemental handgun I would hardly ever use to begin with just didn't sit well with me. I got ASI Med upon crafting up to Wildfire. Take risks! Risks are windows of opportunity that may just payoff if you look through them. Or you wind up with having a bunch of glass shards embedded in your skull. Ouch.

you mean on upgrading?

Do you mean when you upgrade an item? You have to erase your UV, to have a chance at a better UV. Over the years, I have almost always erased my UVs when upgrading, because they're bad and I would rather have a chance at good ones.

Or have I misunderstood you?

Well my question is why

Well my question is why crafting up with a UV in tow doesn't equate to rerolling.
Instead we get the option to erase it or play the 9% odds of getting a new UV, which in the grand scheme of crafting 5* gear (one to three times from 2* or higher) the odds of getting a better* UV is slim to none.

Why isn't it set up like Punch's place where we can tick of what we want to keep or reroll it?

If you want a clean, generic one so badly, why not have a separate box for that too?

design

Oh, you're not asking about how players behave within the current game design. You're proposing a redesign to this part of the game.

Yes, the developers could redesign crafting in that way. It would alter the economics of UVs, making them a bit easier to get. But it wouldn't be a disaster or anything.

All in all, I'd say that it's not a bad idea, but it also should not be a high priority. There are more important things to "fix" and improve.
